What you will do:
The Field Technician is responsible for performing installation, repair, warranty, and service work at customer homes, commercial jobsites, and construction sites. This role supports field operations by diagnosing product issues, completing assigned service calls, performing quality repairs, and ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company quality standards. Depending on the business unit, work may include doors, windows, trim, millwork, hardware, glass, screens, and related building products. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, customer-focused, and committed to delivering exceptional service while maintaining strong communication with customers and internal teams.
Field Service & Repairs
- Perform scheduled installation, repair, warranty, and service work based on work orders and service requests
- Diagnose product issues and determine appropriate repair solutions in the field
- Install, adjust, repair, or replace building products and related components as required
- Verify proper operation and functionality of repaired or installed products before leaving the jobsite
- Inspect completed work to ensure quality, customer satisfaction, and compliance with company standards
- Report product quality concerns or recurring issues to supervisors
Service Preparation & Daily Operations
- Review daily work orders and service tickets before departing for assigned jobs
- Load company service vehicles with required tools, materials, replacement parts, and equipment
- Verify all required materials are available before departing for customer locations
- Plan service routes to maximize efficiency and minimize travel time
- Complete pre-trip inspections of company vehicles and report maintenance or safety concerns
- Maintain organized service vehicles, tools, equipment, and inventory throughout the workday
Customer Service
- Communicate with customers regarding arrival times, work performed, repair recommendations, and job completion
- Obtain required customer, homeowner, or builder signatures upon completion of service work
- Maintain professional, courteous, and respectful communication during all customer interactions
- Resolve customer concerns whenever possible while escalating complex issues appropriately
- Deliver an exceptional customer experience that reflects QXO's commitment to service excellence
Documentation & Warranty Support
- Complete service tickets, work orders, warranty documentation, and repair reports accurately and on time
- Document additional issues discovered during service visits, including photographs and detailed notes when appropriate
- Submit completed service documentation electronically according to company procedures
- Coordinate with Service Coordinators and Field Managers regarding follow-up work or additional material requirements
- Support warranty administration and service scheduling by providing complete and accurate field documentation
Team Collaboration & Operational Support
- Work closely with Service Coordinators, Field Managers, warehouse personnel, and operations teams
- Support scheduling adjustments and priority service requests as business needs require
- Assist with training and mentoring new technicians as assigned
- Maintain strong working relationships with field personnel and internal departments
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction
Safety & Equipment Maintenance
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and PPE requirements
- Maintain company vehicles, tools, equipment, and work areas in clean, organized, and safe condition
- Report unsafe conditions, equipment concerns, accidents, injuries, or near misses immediately
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment
- Promote a safety-first culture throughout all field operations
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

- High school diploma or GED required
- 1–3 years of experience in construction, installation, maintenance, millwork, warranty service, or related field
- Experience servicing doors, windows, trim, millwork, hardware, glass, screens, or related building products preferred
- Knowledge of millwork construction methods and installation practices preferred
- Strong understanding of hand tools, power tools, and field service equipment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Customer service experience in residential or commercial environments preferred
- Work is performed in residential homes, commercial jobsites, warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and outdoor environments
- Frequent travel between customer locations throughout the workday
- Frequent exposure to weather conditions, construction sites, machinery, and material handling activities
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, bend, kneel, crouch, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 75 pounds; heavier items require team lifting or mechanical assistance
- Frequent use of hand tools, power tools, ladders, company vehicles, and service equipment
- May require overtime or extended hours based on customer and operational needs
