Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

SimpleCareer(“SimpleCareer,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates a web application that helps users discover and track job opportunities. SimpleCareer was formerly called Swoopd. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use simplecareer.com and our related services (the “Service”), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

If you have questions, contact us at hello@simplecareer.com.

2. Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

Information you provide

  • Account details: name, email address, and a hashed password (or a passkey credential, if you choose passkey sign-in).
  • Social sign-in profile data: if you sign in with LinkedIn or Google, we receive basic profile information (name, email, profile picture) from those providers via OpenID Connect.
  • Resume content: the text of any resume you upload, plus your free-text “what I’m looking for” description.
  • Search preferences: title keywords, locations, countries, remote preference, and the job sources you opt into.
  • Match preferences: the seniority levels you would take, a target base salary and how firm it is, whether industry matters to you, anything you rule out, and whether you need visa sponsorship. Used only to score jobs for you; never shared with an employer.
  • Application tracking data: jobs you save to your kanban board, statuses, notes, applied/rejected dates, rejection stages and reasons, and dismissed-job feedback.
  • Billing information: when you subscribe to a paid plan, we collect your subscription tier and status. Card details are entered into Stripe’s payment elements and are not stored on our servers. Stripe handles them directly.
  • Communications: messages you send us by email and any feedback you submit through the Service.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage data: pages viewed, actions taken (e.g. dismissals, status changes), and timestamps, used for product analytics and abuse prevention. We measure page views and page speed on the legitimate-interest basis, because we need to know how the Service is used and whether it is staying fast. That measurement is cookieless and is not linked to your account, and you can switch it off from the cookies page.
  • Device and connection data: IP address, browser type, operating system, and approximate location derived from IP, used for security, rate limiting, and troubleshooting.
  • Cookies and local storage: a small number of cookies keep you signed in and remember settings like your theme. Stripe sets two cookies for fraud checks, but only when you open the payment form. Our usage measurement is anonymous and cookieless, and you can turn it off. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The cookies page lists every cookie and stored item by name, what it does, and how long it lasts.
  • Mobile device identifier: if you install the mobile app, it stores a random identifier for that installation. We use it to route push notifications to the right device and to avoid sending you the same notification twice. It is not used for advertising or to track you across other apps, and it goes away when you uninstall the app.
  • Email engagement: when our email provider reports that a message we sent was delivered, opened, clicked, bounced, or marked as spam, we record that event so we can improve deliverability and respect unsubscribes.

Information from third parties

  • Job postings: we ingest publicly available job postings from sources including LinkedIn, ATS portals (Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby), Remote OK, Remotive, We Work Remotely, The Muse, Hacker News “Who is hiring?”, TheirStack, and various venture-capital portfolio job boards. Postings are matched to your profile but are not personal data about you.

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Operate, maintain, and secure the Service.
  • Build an AI-generated preference profile from your resume and stated preferences, and use that profile to score new job postings against your interests.
  • Personalise your dashboard, deliver matched job recommendations, and surface kanban-tracking insights.
  • Process subscription payments through our payment processor and manage your billing.
  • Send transactional emails (sign-in links, password resets, email verification, billing confirmations, your daily summary digest, and account-related announcements).
  • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
  • Improve the Service through aggregate, de-identified analytics.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your data to train third-party AI models.

4. AI processing

SimpleCareeruses Anthropic’s Claude API to (a) parse the text of resumes you upload, (b) build a written preference profile from your resume and stated preferences, (c) score each new job posting against that profile and produce a short explanation of the match, and (d) power our Application Assistant, structuring your resume into editable sections and drafting tailored cover letters and application answers. Inputs sent to Anthropic include your resume text, your “what I’m looking for” statement, the title and description of each posting being scored, and, when you use the Application Assistant, your preference-questionnaire answers and any job description and application questions you paste in.

Anthropic processes this content as our service provider under their API terms, which prohibit using customer inputs and outputs to train their generative models. Claude API calls are stateless. Anthropic does not retain inputs as part of an ongoing user profile.

SimpleCareeralso uses OpenAI’s embeddings API to turn job listings and your search preferences (your “what I’m looking for” statement and target-role keywords) into numerical vectors that power semantic job search, finding roles that match the meaning of what you want, not just exact keywords. OpenAI processes this content as our service provider under their API terms and does not use it to train their models.

Automated decision-making and profiling

Scoring jobs against your profile is profiling under data-protection law, and it changes what you see. We would rather spell that out than bury it.

We build a written profile of the work you want, and we build it not only from your resume, your “what I’m looking for” statement, your filters and your questionnaire answers, but also from the jobs you dismiss and the companies you block. Dismissing a job is not just a one-off “hide this” — it is a signal we feed back into the profile that picks your jobs. Every posting we find for you is then scored from 0 to 100 by Claude, with a short written reason.

That score does exactly three things:

  • it orders your feed, highest first;
  • it can trigger an alert when a job scores at or above your match-alert threshold; and
  • it can automatically hide a job from you entirely, if the job scores below the auto-dismiss threshold you set. You choose that threshold, and setting it to zero means nothing is ever hidden.

It does nothing else. No employer ever sees your score. Nothing is applied for, and nothing is rejected, automatically. The score is a prediction about fit, not a judgment of your ability. Your voluntary self-identification data (gender, race/ethnicity, veteran and disability status) is neveran input to your profile or to any score — it is used only to pre-fill those fields on applications you choose to send.

You can see every score and the reason the AI gave for it, and you can change any of this: adjust or switch off auto-dismiss, un-dismiss anything that was hidden, rebuild your profile, or set your status to “Not looking” to stop discovery, scoring and alerts altogether. You can also ask a human to review a score you think is wrong — email us at the address in “Contact us” below and a person will look.

One honest limit: we can show you the model’s own written reason for each score, and we do — in the app and in your data export. We cannot show you a breakdown of how much each line of your resume contributed to a number, because the model does not produce one and we are not going to invent a convincing-looking figure that isn’t real.

5. How we share information

We share personal information only with the categories of recipients listed below.

Employers, when you use Easy Apply

Easy Apply is an optional feature (Pro and Power) that submits a job application on your behalf, at your explicit instruction, to the applicant-tracking system that hosts a given posting. When you choose to submit, we send that ATS the resume file you selected and the application answers shown to you for review, along with contact details such as your name and email. We only do this for the specific application you submit; we never apply on your behalf without your action. The receiving employer and its ATS handle that data under their own privacy policies, not ours. Any answers drafted with AI are always shown to you to review and edit before anything is sent. Voluntary self-identification (EEO) answers are only ever submitted from the choices you save yourself in your profile; we never generate them with AI, and we never use them for job matching. If you leave a self-identification answer blank, we leave that field blank.

Service providers (subprocessors)

We use the following third-party providers to operate the Service. Each is bound by contractual confidentiality and data- protection obligations and processes data only on our instructions.

  • Vercel: application hosting, edge delivery, and anonymous cookieless usage and performance measurement (United States).
  • Supabase: managed PostgreSQL database hosting and private resume-file storage (United States).
  • Stripe: subscription billing and payment processing (United States).
  • RevenueCat: in-app subscription management for the mobile apps (App Store / Google Play purchases; receives a user identifier and subscription state, never card details) (United States).
  • Resend: transactional email delivery and delivery-event reporting (United States).
  • Anthropic: large-language-model processing for resume parsing and job matching (United States).
  • OpenAI: text-embedding generation over job listings and your search preferences to power semantic job search (United States).
  • Expo: push-notification delivery to the mobile app (device push tokens and notification content) (United States).
  • Google: basic profile information through OpenID Connect (United States), only if you choose to sign in with Google.
  • LinkedIn: basic profile information through OpenID Connect (United States), only if you choose to sign in with LinkedIn.
  • Job-listing providers: we make outbound requests to public job-listing APIs (Fantastic.jobs, TheirStack, The Muse, Remote OK, Remotive, We Work Remotely, Hacker News, USAJobs (US federal jobs board), Common Crawl (web index), Greenhouse public boards, Lever public boards, Ashby public boards, Gem public boards, Workday public boards, BambooHR public boards, Rippling public boards, Workable public boards, Recruitee public boards, SmartRecruiters public boards, Deel public boards, Jobvite public boards, iCIMS public boards, JazzHR public boards, Breezy HR public boards, DEJOBS / DirectEmployers public boards, Amazon Jobs (amazon.jobs), CareerPuck public job boards, Pinpoint public boards, Oracle Recruiting Cloud public boards, Eightfold public boards, Phenom public careers sites, Comeet public boards, Personio public boards, HiBob public boards, ADP WorkforceNow public career centers, Teamtailor public boards, Paylocity public recruiting boards, UKG Pro Recruiting public job boards, SAP SuccessFactors public career sites, Consider.com VC portfolio job boards, Getro VC portfolio job boards, Y Combinator public company directory, Product Hunt (public launch directory)) to retrieve postings. We do not send your personal data to those providers; we only send query parameters describing the postings you want to see.

Public board sharing (optional)

If you turn on public-board sharing in your profile settings, a read-only view of your kanban board becomes accessible at a URL we generate for you. This view exposes the postings you have saved (titles, organisations, statuses, locations, your notes) to anyone with the link. You can turn sharing off at any time, after which the public URL stops returning data.

Legal and safety

We may disclose information when we believe in good faith that it is necessary to comply with a valid legal request, enforce our terms, protect the rights, property, or safety ofSimpleCareer, our users, or the public, or detect or prevent fraud or security incidents.

Business transfers

If SimpleCareer is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganisation, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to standard confidentiality protections.

6. Data retention

We retain personal information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account yourself at any time, from the “Danger zone” at the bottom of Profile → General in the app (Settings → General in the mobile app).

Deletion is immediate and permanent. There is no grace period and no way to restore a deleted account. When you delete your account we erase the records associated with it — your account and sign-in credentials, sessions and passkeys, resume content, uploaded resume files (removed from our storage provider, not merely unlinked), kanban entries, search preferences and saved searches, dismissed-job history, score history, application-assistant drafts, notifications, your email-delivery history, and your billing records. In the same operation we cancel any active subscription and delete your customer record at our payment processor, cancel any AI scoring runs still in progress, and revoke our access tokens with any social sign-in provider (Apple, Google, or LinkedIn) you had connected, so they drop their record of the connection too.

Your email-delivery history goes with everything else: we do not keep a record of the messages we sent you, and the email confirming the deletion itself is deliberately not recorded — we do not write a new entry against an address we have just erased. Limited operational logs may persist for a short period for security and auditing purposes.

Data exports. When you export your data, the ZIP archive we build is a complete copy of your personal information, so we do not leave it lying around: it is stored in a private bucket, reachable only through a short-lived link we mint when you click Download, and it is deleted seven days after it is created(or sooner, if you request a newer one). We keep a permanent record that an export was requested — when, and from what IP address — after the file itself is gone. That record is how you, and we, would notice someone else exporting your data.

Aggregated or de-identified data that no longer identifies you may be retained indefinitely.

7. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights in relation to your personal information:

  • Access: get a copy of the personal information we hold about you, yourself, at any time, from Profile → Your Data in the app. We email you a link to confirm the request (so that a stolen session can’t be used to download your data), then build a ZIP archive containing your account and settings, your resumes as the original files, the profile our AI has written about you, every job score and the reason given for it, your board, your applications, your notifications, and a plain-English README explaining all of it — including what we hold but deliberately did not put in the file, and why. You can also ask us to produce it for you at the address in “Contact us” below, and we will respond within one month.
  • Correction: ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information. Many fields are editable directly in your profile. If what you want corrected is the profile our AI inferred about you, the way to fix it is to rebuild it and re-score your jobs. That is a paid-plan feature; if you are on the free plan and you think the AI has got you wrong, email us at the address in “Contact us” below and we will rebuild it for you.
  • Deletion: delete your account and its associated data yourself, from the “Danger zone” at the bottom of Profile → General (Settings → General in the mobile app). You confirm by typing your email address, plus your password if your account has one. Deletion is immediate and permanent, it cancels any active subscription with no refund, and it cannot be undone — see “Data retention” above for exactly what is erased. You can also ask us to do it for you at the address in “Contact us” below.
  • Portability: the same export (Profile → Your Data) gives you a machine-readable copy — JSON and CSV, in an open ZIP archive, with a manifest describing every file. It labels which parts you provided to us (and can therefore take anywhere) and which parts we inferred or recorded about you, since those are two different rights and it is fairer to tell you which is which than to blur them.
  • Objection or restriction: object to or restrict certain processing of your data.
  • Withdraw consent: where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
  • Your privacy choices: the cookies page lists every cookie and stored item we use and carries a toggle that turns off anonymous usage measurement. Use it to object to that measurement without emailing us.
  • Unsubscribe: turn off the daily summary email from your profile, or use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email. Transactional emails (sign-in links, password resets, billing receipts) cannot be turned off while you have an account.
  • Lodge a complaint: residents of the EEA, UK, or Switzerland may complain to their local data-protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@simplecareer.com from the address associated with your account.

California residents: under the CCPA/CPRA, you may request access to and deletion of your personal information, obtain a portable copy of it (Profile → Your Data, at any time), correct inaccurate information, limit our use of sensitive personal information (your voluntary self-identification data — we already use it for nothing but pre-filling applications you choose to send, and you can clear it at any time), opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information (we do not sell or share for cross-context behavioural advertising), and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not charge for an export, and you may request one at least twice in any twelve-month period.

8. International data transfers

SimpleCareer is operated from the United States, and our subprocessors are primarily located in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have data-protection laws that differ from those in your country. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses) for cross-border transfers.

9. Security

We use industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including TLS-encrypted connections, hashed passwords, scoped database credentials, and server-side access controls. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Children

SimpleCareer is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify you by email or through the Service. Continued use of the Service after the changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.

12. Contact us

Questions, requests, or complaints about this policy can be sent to hello@simplecareer.com.
