In Australia, our Energy Minerals business is a leading provider of coal testing, analysis and expert advice and we are currently looking for Coal Technicians to join our operations. We are seeking candidates who are looking for an exciting career change to work with a Global leader for quality and integrity role.

Job Description

Join our dynamic team as a Casual Coal Sampler, based in Mayfield, NSW, where you'll be part of a fast-paced and supportive work environment.

In this role, your responsibilities will include the timely and quality sampling, preparation, and basic analysis of samples for both internal and external customers. You'll also contribute to achieving our mission and objectives in the areas of sample preparation, analysis, and storage.

You will be responsible but not limited to:

• Assisting the Leading Hand with daily operational activities.
• Conducting manual sampling of trains, ships, stockpiles, and stopped conveyor belts.
• Operating and monitoring mechanical sampling systems.
• Collecting, preparing, identifying, storing, and dispatching samples.
• Day to day upkeep of analytical and sample preparation equipment.
• Delivery of quality samples to both internal and external customers.
• Flexibility is critical as you may be required to complete day, afternoon and/or night shifts on weekdays or weekends. 

Qualifications

The successful candidate will also have:

• Performing laboratory testing, including size analysis, total moisture, Hardgrove Grindability Index (HGI), and other physical tests.
• Completing testing, checking duplicate results, reviewing flagged data, and exporting results into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• Investigating out-of-specification or unexpected results through retesting where required.
• Carrying out routine equipment maintenance and ensuring equipment is clean and operating correctly.
• Monitoring automatic sampling equipment and maintaining a high standard of sample preparation.
• Completing routine documentation including timesheets, shift reports, and job records.
• Assisting with training and mentoring new team members.
• Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe work environment.
• Monitoring stock levels of consumables and advising supervisors of replenishment requirements.
• Following all SGS Quality, Health, Safety & Environment (QHSE) policies, procedures, and the SGS Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct.
