LPN Surgery Coordinator - Thoracic Surgery

Position Purpose: Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) assist in providing excellent patient care by assisting physicians/physician assistants/nurse practitioners in medical office settings. Performs a variety of patient care duties within the construct of a multidisciplinary patient care team as delegated by the physician. 

Hours/Shift: Full Time/Days - 7:30am to 4:00pm Monday-Friday

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate surgical procedures, including surgeon and surgical assistant scheduling, patient scheduling, pre-operative preparation, and post-operative follow up appointments.

• Coordinate with other healthcare providers for patient referrals and manage patient billing and insurance matters related to surgery.

• Inform patients about the details of their surgery, including risks, benefits, and recovery time.

• Ensure all necessary documentation and patient records are in order, including verification of advanced directive status, informed consent and sterilization consent forms when appropriate.

• Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of department and organization.

Qualifications

Education:  High School graduate or equivalent.

Experience:  Minimum of 3 years clinical experience working in a healthcare office setting, scheduling, and/or authorizations.

Certification:  N/A

License:  Licensed Practical Nurse

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: A basic understanding of medical terminology and surgical procedures.

Work Requirements 

• Able to reach above and below shoulder level, lift, bend, kneel, squat, stand, walk, and sit for the full scheduled shift.

• Able to use telephone and computer software and hardware for most of the shift (90% of the day).
• Expected duties have possible, but not routine, potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.
