Manager-Finance, Competitive Intelligence
As Manager, Competitive Intelligence within Investor Relations, you will translate competitive dynamics, investor sentiment, and macroeconomic trends into actionable insights for senior leadership. This highly visible role offers an opportunity to elevate Competitive Intelligence at American Express, shaping how senior leaders assess the company's performance relative to peers, emerging industry trends, and investor expectations through impactful written and verbal communication.
The ideal candidate brings a passion for analyzing companies, industries, and market dynamics—whether from a sell-side research, buy-side, investor relations, or strategic finance background. Success in this role requires exceptional analytical rigor, strong storytelling and communication skills, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, compelling insights in a fast-paced, high-impact global environment.
- Synthesize key highlights from competitors’ earnings calls, conferences and other related press for the CEO, CFO and Executive Committee
- Understand key macroeconomic trends and forecasts and serve as the subject matter expert for the enterprise
- Conduct ad-hoc analyses on a variety of competitive landscape areas.
- This role has a very broad and diverse group of stakeholders – outside of senior management already mentioned, this role is critical to Investor Relations, Enterprise Strategy, Finance teams, and many more.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to quick synthesize complex data
- Strong analytical and financial modeling skill and an understanding of card economics and the Amex business model.
- Ability to build and leverage relationships across multiple teams
- Ability to connect the dots and build the story line of AXP’s relevant position in the industry
- Strong sense of intellectual curiosity that will drive new and innovative ways of thinking about the company’s performance on a relative basis
- Formal sell-side or investor relations experience a plus
