Are you a dependable driver who enjoys variety in your day and takes pride in delivering excellent customer service? As a Route Relief & Recovery Driver, you will play a critical role in ensuring our customers receive the products they need when they need them.In this position, you will support our delivery operations by completing recovery deliveries for missed, shorted, or time-sensitive orders across the Salem, Lynchburg, Blacksburg, Lexington, Richmond, and Newport News markets. When recovery deliveries are not required, you will assist route drivers, support high-volume routes, and help maintain exceptional service levels for our customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Pay Rate: $26.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:00 AM - Until Completion
Customer Deliveries & Route Support
- Safely operate a company van or box truck to complete assigned deliveries.
- Perform recovery deliveries for missed, shorted, mis-picked, or emergency customer orders.
- Assist route drivers with deliveries when recovery orders are not required.
- Deliver products according to established routes, schedules, and customer requirements.
- Provide outstanding customer service and represent the company professionally at all times.
Loading, Unloading & Product Handling
- Load and unload products for multi-stop delivery routes.
- Use hand trucks and other material handling equipment to transport products into customer locations.
- Safely deliver products into customer storage areas, including navigating stairs and confined spaces when necessary.
- Lift up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
Delivery Documentation & Compliance
- Accurately complete delivery records and required paperwork.
- Operate handheld scanners and delivery technology systems.
- Verify delivery accuracy, process returns, and document damaged merchandise when needed.
- Collect payments when required.
- Communicate delivery issues and customer concerns to appropriate management teams.
Vehicle Safety & Maintenance
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and report maintenance concerns promptly.
- Monitor vehicle refrigeration systems as required and follow all food safety procedures.
- Adhere to DOT regulations, company policies, and safe driving practices.
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain a strong commitment to workplace safety.
- Support operational priorities and special assignments as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Experience
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- One year of multi-stop delivery experience preferred; or
- Six months of local delivery experience and/or foodservice industry experience.
- Hand cart delivery experience preferred.
License & Driving Requirements
- Valid U.S. Driver's License issued by the state of legal residence.
- Ability to pass a DOT Physical.
- Acceptable driving record:
- No more than two moving violations within the past two years.
- No DUI convictions within the past three years.
- No driver's license suspensions within the past three years.
- No termination from a previous employer due to safety violations or preventable accidents.
Skills & Abilities

- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to work independently and manage changing priorities.
- Knowledge of local and regional roadways and navigation tools.
- Commitment to safety and defensive driving practices.
Compensation depends on relevant experience and/or education, specific skills, function, geographic location, and other factors applicable by law (for example: state minimum wage thresholds). The expected base rate for this role is between $26.00 and $31.00.
