Role Overview
The Platform Engineer – MicroStrategy is responsible for the day-to-day operation, administration and production support of the Client MicroStrategy platform.
The role focuses on maintaining platform availability, stability, security and performance across development, test and production environments. It includes incident resolution, service-request fulfilment, platform monitoring, access administration, scheduled workload support and controlled implementation of operational changes.
This is primarily a Platform Operations role, with responsibility for ensuring MicroStrategy services remain reliable, supportable and aligned to service-management standards.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Operations and Administration
Perform daily monitoring and administration of the MicroStrategy platform.
Complete platform health checks and respond to system alerts or service degradation.
Monitor Intelligence Server, Web, Library, reports, cubes, schedules and subscriptions.
Support platform start-up, shutdown, service restart and recovery activities.
Maintain platform configurations, schedules, caches and operational settings.
Support development, test and production environments in accordance with agreed procedures.
Maintain platform inventories, support records and environment documentation.
Incident and Problem Management
Provide Level 2 and Level 3 production support for MicroStrategy incidents.
Investigate and resolve platform availability, performance, access and report-execution issues.
Coordinate issue resolution across database, infrastructure, network, identity and data-platform teams.
Participate in major incident response and provide timely stakeholder updates.
Perform root-cause analysis for recurring or high-impact incidents.
Maintain known errors, workarounds and support knowledge articles.
Escalate complex product issues to MicroStrategy or other technology vendors.
Service Requests and Access Management
Complete MicroStrategy service requests within agreed service levels.
Administer users, groups, roles, privileges and security filters.
Support report scheduling, subscriptions and distribution requests.
Process access changes in accordance with approved security and access-management controls.
Participate in periodic user-access and privileged-access reviews.
Maintain evidence of approvals and completed access changes.
Monitoring, Performance and Scheduling
Monitor platform health, report performance, resource utilisation and scheduled workloads.
Investigate failed or delayed reports, cubes, subscriptions and batch processes.
Identify abnormal workload patterns and potential capacity or performance issues.
Escalate report, database or infrastructure issues requiring specialist remediation.
Support critical reporting cycles and validate successful completion of scheduled workloads.
Provide operational reporting covering availability, incidents, workload performance and service levels.
Change, Release and Maintenance Support
Implement approved platform configuration and operational changes.
Support migration of MicroStrategy objects and configurations between environments.
Perform pre-change checks, implementation activities and post-change validation.
Maintain implementation plans, rollback procedures and change evidence.
Support platform patching, maintenance releases and upgrades.
Coordinate planned outages and communicate service impacts.
Documentation and Continuous Improvement
Maintain operational runbooks, support procedures and recovery documentation.
Document recurring incidents, known errors and standard resolution steps.
Identify opportunities to improve monitoring, support processes and operational controls.
Reduce repeat incidents through preventative actions and permanent remediation.
Automate repeatable administration and monitoring activities where appropriate.
Contribute to platform resilience, lifecycle and service-improvement initiatives.
Required Skills and Experience
Experience in platform operations, application support or production support.
Hands-on experience administering and supporting MicroStrategy in an enterprise environment.
Strong knowledge of:
MicroStrategy Intelligence Server
MicroStrategy Web and Library
MicroStrategy Developer or Workstation
Distribution Services
Report, cube and subscription scheduling
User, group and privilege administration
Platform monitoring and environment administration
Experience managing incidents, service requests, problems and operational changes.
Strong troubleshooting capability across application, database, infrastructure and authentication layers.
SQL skills and experience investigating data or database-related issues.
Experience using ServiceNow or a comparable IT service-management platform.
Understanding of ITIL-aligned incident, problem, change and request-management processes.
Ability to produce clear runbooks, support procedures and incident documentation.
Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate across multiple technical teams.
Desirable Skills
Experience supporting MicroStrategy with Snowflake.
Experience with Microsoft Azure and enterprise data platforms.
Knowledge of Active Directory, single sign-on and identity-management services.
Experience with MicroStrategy Enterprise Manager or similar monitoring capabilities.
Experience using MicroStrategy Command Manager or REST APIs.
Basic scripting capability using Python, PowerShell or Shell.
Experience supporting platform patching, upgrades and disaster-recovery testing.
MicroStrategy or ITIL certification.
