JOB SPECIFICS

The Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) in Cardiothoracic Surgery plays an integral role in the comprehensive care of adult cardiothoracic surgical patients. This provider works collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, intensivists, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high quality perioperative care. Responsibilities include inpatient rounding, first assisting in the operating room, managing pre and postoperative patients, and participating in call coverage.

  • Serve as first assist in cardiothoracic surgical procedures, including CABG, valve surgery, aortic procedures, and other cardiothoracic operations.
  • Perform surgical tasks such as vein harvesting, suturing, retraction, cannulation assistance, and hemostasis.
  • Support preoperative preparation and postoperative handoff to ICU teams.
  • Perform daily rounds on postoperative and step down patients.
  • Manage routine and complex postoperative issues, including hemodynamic monitoring, chest tube management, wound care, and medication adjustments.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, labs, imaging, and consults.
  • Coordinate patient care with nursing, case management, rehabilitation, and other specialties.
  • Participate in shared call rotation and support OR call needs

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Licensed to provide either advanced practice nursing services in the State of Illinois as issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in accordance with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act OR physician assistant services as issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in accordance with the Illinois Physician Assistant Practice Act of 1987.
  • Nurse Practitioners must hold a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner certification from the National Certification Corporation
  • Licensed by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and the State of Illinois to prescribe narcotics, if applicable.
  • BLS/ACLS Certified.
  • Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP).
  • Must be eligible as a provider for Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal health programs.
  • Provider shall meet all qualifications to participate in OSF's programs for professional malpractice and other liability coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care aligned to the preferences, goals, and needs of the patients served. A minimum of 2 years of cardiothoracic or critical care experience is preferred.

  • Full-time, clinical base hourly pay range for this position: $68.82-$78.43. This position is salaried.
    • Range shown should be used as an estimate and can be impacted by many factors including but not limited to the critical need of the position, overall experience and qualifications, community need, and other considerations.  Additional compensation components may be applicable such as bonuses or incentives which may or may not be based on metric achievement
