About the role

  • May propose changes in design or formulation to improve system and/or process reliability.

  • Builds and conducts dry running of basic qualification test set ups.

  • sCompiles and analyzes performance reports and process control statistics; investigates and analyzes relevant variables potentially affecting product performance and processes.

  • Liaises closely with other project team members in the areas such as stress, manufacturing, sourcing and configuration, with respect to new designs or design changes.

Key Responsibilities: 

Reliability Modeling & Prediction

  • Perform reliability predictions for electronic assemblies and systems using industry-standard methodologies.

  • Calculate:

    • MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures)

    • Failure Rate (FIT)

    • Product Useful Life

    • Service Life Estimates

    • Reliability Growth Metrics

    • Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD)

    • Mission Reliability

  • Conduct reliability analysis using:

    • Telcordia SR-332

    • MIL-HDBK-217F

    • IEC 61709

    • FIDES methodologies

  • Perform component-level and assembly-level reliability assessments

System-Level Reliability Analysis

  • Develop and maintain system-level reliability models for complete products and platforms.

  • Create reliability block diagrams — RBDs — for system architecture analysis.

  • Evaluate reliability of complete systems considering:

    • PCB assemblies

    • Sensors

    • Power supplies

    • Communication modules

    • Displays

    • Relays/contactors

    • Motors/fans

    • Connectors and harnesses

    • Mechanical/electromechanical interfaces

  • Analyze series, parallel, redundant, standby, and fail-safe architectures.

  • Calculate system reliability, availability, maintainability, and probability of failure over mission time.

  • Assess single-point failures and critical reliability contributors at system level.

  • Support architecture trade-off studies to improve system robustness, redundancy, serviceability, and product life.

  • Work with hardware, firmware, systems, mechanical, quality, compliance, and field teams to translate reliability risks into design actions

Product Lifetime & Wear-Out Analysis

  • Estimate product useful life and service life based on operating profiles and field usage conditions.

  • Perform lifetime calculations for wear-out-sensitive components such as:

    • Electrolytic capacitors

    • Relays

    • Power semiconductors

    • Fans

    • Connectors

    • Batteries

    • Displays

    • Electromechanical parts

  • Apply appropriate models such as Arrhenius, Weibull, Coffin-Manson, thermal acceleration, voltage derating, and duty-cycle-based life models.

  • Evaluate environmental impact including temperature, humidity, vibration, cycling, load profile, and power-on hours.

  • Recommend design margins, derating guidelines, and component selection improvements

Field Data Analytics

  • Analyze warranty claims, field returns, service records, and customer failure data.

  • Develop reliability dashboards and reliability KPIs.

  • Identify dominant failure modes and reliability trends.

  • Establish failure-rate distributions and reliability growth plans.

  • Generate actionable recommendations to improve product robustness.

Reliability Testing & Validation

  • Define reliability validation plans for new product development and sustaining programs.

  • Support HALT, HASS, accelerated life testing, temperature cycling, humidity testing, vibration testing, power cycling, and environmental stress testing.

  • Correlate lab test results with predicted reliability and actual field performance.

  • Define sample size, test duration, confidence level, and acceptance criteria for reliability demonstration tests.

  • Support design verification and product qualification from a reliability perspective

Failure Analysis & Root Cause Investigation

  • Support root cause investigations involving:

    • Field failures

    • Manufacturing defects

    • Component failures

    • Early-life failures

  • Perform statistical analysis of failures.

  • Work with hardware, firmware, component engineering, quality, manufacturing, and suppliers to implement corrective actions.

Reliability Tools & Data Management

  • Utilize reliability prediction software and databases for analysis and reporting. Expertise in Relex, Reliasoft, Minitab, ITEM tool suite

  • Maintain reliability calculation models, assumptions, and documentation.

  • Develop automated reliability reporting tools and dashboards.

  • Support design reviews with quantitative reliability assessments

 Requirements 

Requires advanced knowledge obtained through a University degree, combined with experience
Practical to substantial knowledge of Carrier organization, programs or systems with the ability to make enhancements and leverage in daily work
University Degree or equivalent
A minimum of 5 years prior relevant experience
OR
An advanced degree in a related field and a minimum of 3 years experience
