Business Unit/Role Specific Information 

Enterprise Shared Services (ESS) comprises key functions that are core to the company’s operations, including Global Real Estate & Workplace Experience, Global Supply Management, Business Resilience & Corporate Functions Governance, Aviation, Internal Fraud, and Global Security. ESS helps keep our company growing and puts our colleagues at the center of everything they do by delivering best-in-class services that power safe, resilient, and efficient operations around the world.

 

The Business Resilience team helps American Express prepare for, withstand and recover from disruptions that could affect customers, colleagues, operations, products or services. The intern will support priority initiatives and gain exposure to Business Continuity Management, Operational Resilience, and Third-Party Resilience.

How will you make an impact in this role?

As a Business Resilience Intern, you will contribute to work that strengthens organizational preparedness and resilience. You will collaborate with colleagues across ESS and partner functions, apply analytical and project management skills, and help improve processes, reporting and program capabilities.

This position will be based in Manhattan, New York.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Business Resilience initiatives aligned with current business priorities.

  • Assist with research, data analysis, documentation, reporting, and project coordination.

  • Contribute to the development or enhancement of procedures, playbooks, training materials, governance routines or resilience capabilities.

  • Prepare materials for resilience exercises, stakeholder meetings and senior-level reporting, and track follow-up actions.

  • Analyze and visualize data to identify trends, risks, dependencies, or opportunities for improvement.

  • Research industry practices, emerging risks and regulatory developments relevant to business resilience.

  • Explore opportunities to use emerging technology, including AI, to support research, analysis, and process improvement.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional and global partners to support consistent execution and share best practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a full-time bachelor's degree program, with an anticipated graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Interest in enterprise risk, business continuity, operational resilience, third-party risk, cybersecurity, technology, data analytics or regulatory compliance.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in business, risk management, engineering, mathematics, information systems, computer science, data analytics, cybersecurity, supply chain management, or related field.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with Tableau, Power BI or similar tools is a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

 

Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
