The Corporate Functions Governance & Control (CFG&C) team within ESS drives risk governance and control management for several business units including ESS; Corporate Affairs & Communications; Colleague Experience Group; General Counsel’s Organization; Enterprise Strategy; and American Express National Bank Headquarters (Corporate Functions). CFG&C enables risk governance and control management through a structure that governs, identifies, assesses, manages and reports on enterprise, operational and compliance risks.

CFG&C is looking for a Manager, Regulatory Governance, that will support the maintenance of an inventory of the Laws, Rules and Regulations applicable to the supported Corporate Functions to ensure proper management and mitigation of regulatory risks in all markets in which it operates.

The Key Responsibilities are as follows:

  • Support implementation of the new Reliance Model.
  • Oversee execution of the Reliance Model Questionnaire and ensure business-unit adherence to minimum standards.
  • Require annual attestations of program compliance and business-unit regulatory subject-matter expertise.
  • Confirm that business-unit governance processes are formally documented.
  • Provide ongoing reporting to maintain Corporate Function awareness of regulatory change management activities.
  • Additional responsibilities based on team needs.

  • 4+ years of experience in compliance, legal, regulatory advisory, or a related role within financial services is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret regulatory requirements and advise business stakeholders on compliance risks, processes, and controls.
  • Strong program and project management experience, including governance, change management, stakeholder engagement, execution tracking, and executive reporting.
  • Experience designing and implementing governance frameworks, operating models, or compliance programs in complex or evolving environments.
  • Strong understanding of policy, regulatory, and operational risk management requirements and the three lines of defense model.
  • Proven relationship management, communication, analytical, and decision-making skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt in a dynamic, ambiguous, and high-pressure environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree, such as a J.D., or relevant professional certification, such as CRCM, preferred.
