Your work environment at EXP
Join EXP as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer in Ottawa, where you’ll provide technical leadership, lead a diverse portfolio of geotechnical projects, and help grow our presence in the local market. Working closely with the Geotechnical Division Manager, you’ll play a key role in driving project success and building strong client relationships.
What a day at EXP could look like
- Build and maintain strong client relationships to support ongoing and future projects
- Prepare proposals, including scopes of work, cost estimates, and project schedules
- Plan and execute assignments requiring broad geotechnical expertise and an understanding of related disciplines
- Apply sound engineering judgment, adapting standard methods to meet unique project conditions
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, suppliers, and third-party stakeholders to deliver project objectives
- Manage projects end-to-end, including scope, schedule, budget, and resource allocation
- Direct field investigations, monitoring programs, and construction-phase services
- Attend project meetings and conduct site inspections when senior technical guidance is required
- Review and interpret geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring data
- Perform engineering analysis, including computer-based modelling
- Prepare and review technical reports and deliverables
- Collaborate with senior staff on complex or challenging technical issues
- Work independently with minimal supervision based on project complexity
- Mentor, coach, and support the development of junior and intermediate staff
What your experience looks like
- P.Eng. designation in Ontario (required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering; postgraduate degree is an asset
- Minimum 15 years of relevant geotechnical experience, ideally in a consulting environment
- At least 5 years’ experience in a senior project management role within geotechnical investigation, design, and construction
- Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams and multiple concurrent projects
- Demonstrated ability to develop scopes of work aligned with client requirements
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, standards, and quality requirements
- Experience managing budgets, schedules, and scope changes due to client needs or field conditions
- Proven ability to deliver accurate and timely project reporting
- Strong business development skills, including building and growing client relationships
- Experience with complex geotechnical investigations and design work
- Proven ability to mentor and develop junior engineering staff

The salary range for this role is between $130k - $160k. The actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location.
