Sr. Physician Assistant (Emergency Medicine)

The Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking an Sr. Physician Assistant experienced in Emergency Medicine to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health care team. Specific Duties & Responsibilities * Perform a comprehensive, accurate history and physical including chief complaint, presenting signs and symptoms, past medical history, and interval history. Recognize abnormal and significant findings and discuss with attending physician as appropriate. * Order diagnostics and interpret abnormal findings. * Discuss or staff cases with attending physician when appropriate per department standards based on acuity or venue. * Initiate Basic/Advanced life support in response to emergency situations. * Maintain technical proficiency with approved procedures including suturing, wound care, and orthopedic care. * Initiate and prescribe medications. * Complete all aspects of medical documentation in accordance with department standards. * Arrange consultations and referrals when needed. * Attend staff meetings and keep up to date on department protocols, operations, research, and procedures providing input and feedback. * Remain proficient in the utilization of commonly used clinical protocols and evidence-based guidelines. * Remain abreast of new treatment modalities and technologies within the field of emergency medicine. * Provider will work proficiently and autonomously in the various venues of ED. * Attention to patient safety, personal safety, and safety of co-workers due to contact with potentially infected body fluids with blood. * Use appropriate universal precautions for any contact, droplet, airborne pathogens. Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor's Degree; Certification by the NCCPA or similar national certifying body; Completion of a CAAHEP certified Physician Assistant program. * Must be licensed as PA in State of Maryland or other state where practicing. * Current CPR certification required. * Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. * Minimum of 3 years experience in related clinical area and obtained proficiency in area of specialty. * Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Preferred Qualifications * Five years related experience.
