Job Description
Join X-energy’s growing reactor licensing team and support the development of reactor licensing efforts and associated engagements with the U.S. NRC. This role will support portions of licensing application development and interface between internal teams (licensing, engineering, program/project management, supply chain, and procurement) and the U.S. NRC. Licensing Engineers are engaged in environmental licensing, nuclear safety, nuclear security, emergency planning, safeguards, and regulatory compliance for X-energy's advanced high-temperature gas-cooled reactor technology. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to first-of-a-kind advanced reactor projects that define industry-best licensing practices.
Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities
Support portions of licensing activities (certifications, permits, approvals, and licenses associated with reactor technologies) and ensure milestones are met as agreed with the U.S. NRC.
Provide licensing support to engineers in developing technical requirements that will ensure compliance with NRC regulations and guidance.
Support scope development of the annual regulatory engagement plan, lead regulatory audits and responses to RAIs (Requests for Additional Information).
Develop licensing content to support portions of Safety Analysis Reports and licensing applications.
Support planning and executing the X-energy licensing strategy.
Develop regulatory white papers, technical reports, and licensing topical reports.
Support development of licensing plans and associated budgets.
Actively support the X-energy safety culture and ensure integration of quality in licensing processes as informed by the X-energy Quality Assurance Program.
Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Job Profile Minimum Qualifications
All Levels:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (e.g., mechanical, nuclear, chemical, or electrical engineering), science (e.g., environmental science, physics, or chemistry), or other related area.
Experience in direct NRC interactions (written and/or verbal).
Understanding of the nuclear regulatory processes in the United States.
Experience in project management related to developing schedules and coordinating team activities to produce technical content for regulatory purposes.
Level II: Typically, two years of relevant licensing experience.
Level III: Typically, five years of relevant licensing experience.
Level IV: Typically, ten years of relevant licensing experience.
Level V: Typically, fifteen years of relevant licensing experience.
Level VI: Typically, twenty years of relevant licensing experience.
Preferred Skills
Candidates for this role would ideally have knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas, commensurate with their educational and professional background:
Experience with U.S. NRC construction permit and operating license application preparation and/or reviews
Knowledge of high-temperature gas reactor technologies and/or first-of-a-kind nuclear technologies
Knowledge of small modular reactor technical and licensing considerations
Knowledge of U.S. NRC and/or U.S. DOE regulatory requirements for reactor licensing
Location: 530 Gaither Road, Rockville, MD
Work Arrangement: 4 Days Onsite per Week
Hours: 8:00am-5:00pm, Mon-Fri
Compensation

Offers within the posted salary range are commensurate with the individual’s qualifications for the position, along with a view on internal equity, market data, and room for growth. The salary range for this position is:
Level I: $81,314 - $135,524 / Level II: $88,725 - $147,875 / Level III: $103,575 - $172,625 / Level IV: $143,550 - $183,425 / Level V: $165,000 - $190,000 / Level VI: $190,000 - $215,000Position Job Classification
