The Radar Mechanical Design Department leads mechanical design, development, and integration of some of the most innovative land-based and shipboard radars in the world. This includes phased array radar systems, electronic modules, pedestals, and power and cooling systems. The department comprises individuals with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, integration, and production support.
The Radar Mechanical Design Department is seeking a Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer to support the LTAMDS (Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor) as the Radar Set Product Lead. LTAMDS Raytheon Technologies franchise program that will deliver a next generation radar with 360-degree visibility to defeat advanced threats including hypersonic weapons.
This onsite role will be based in Marlborough, MA or Tewksbury, MA.
What You Will Do
- Collaborate with a cross-functional team to manage production and delivery efforts across multiple contracts over several years, including initiatives aimed at supporting future growth.
- Responsibilities include governing contract scope while addressing the incorporation of new design capabilities and enhancements for producibility.
- Oversee the scope, budget, and schedule for integrating the LTAMDS sub-products into a complete Radar Set product.
- Responsible for executing the design, development, production, and delivery of the Radar set across multiple cross function teams.
- You will have ownership over these items across multiple contracts and spanning multiple years, including efforts critical to support future growth.
- You will govern contract scope while accommodating break-in of new design capabilities and producibility improvements.
- Provide technical conscience, challenged with making sure the product and process meet appropriate standards and requirements.
- Ensure balance with risk conditions and constraints while advising leadership.
- Support Array IPT Lead with EVMS, Program planning, budgeting, and Risk & Opportunity Management pertaining to Array Hardware.
- Management of Engineering production support while simultaneously balancing resulting performance with the ability to meet the customers’ critical schedule requirements across LTAMDS Contracts.
- Maintain effective relationships with internal technical and programmatic stakeholders, including the IPT Leads, Operations & Supply Chain, Quality, Lifecycle Engineering, Chief Engineers, and Engineering Finance.
- Train sub-leads for each variant with focus on increasing bench-strength.
- Be Visible and accountable for technical decisions of team of hardware engineers.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience or an advanced degree in a related field and minimum 7 years’ experience.
- A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in mechanical design.
- Experience with phase array structures, and/or hardware packaging, and/or array integration for military or mechanical or commercial applications.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Direct experience with the LTAMDS program and products.
- Proven technical leadership skills with the ability to develop work plans and drive success.
- Experience collaborating across functions, including Engineering, Operations, Global Supply Chain, and Quality, during hardware development, production, and system testing.
- Background in executing DoD sustainment or product support activities, including proposal development.
- Knowledge of radar, sensor systems, or other advanced electronic systems.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and interact with senior leadership, customers, teammates, and suppliers.

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
