BASIC FUNCTION: 

The Assistant Fabrication Manager supports the Fabrication Manager in overseeing daily fabrication operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of all fabrication activities. This role coordinates with production teams, welding inspectors, rigging crews, and quality departments to maintain smooth workflow, compliance with project specifications, and adherence to safety standards. The Assistant Fabrication Manager plays a key role in planning, supervising, and monitoring fabrication progress to meet project timelines and deliverables.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fabrication Technology, or related field.
  • Proven experience in fabrication operations management, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of fabrication processes, equipment, and materials.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in problem-solving, decision-making, and project management.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems and continuous improvement methodologies

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of experience in fabrication, rigging, or production operations within oil & gas, construction, or industrial environments.
  • Supervisory or lead experience in fabrication or rigging operations is preferred.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Fabrication Coordination & Planning
    • Assist in planning and scheduling fabrication activities based on project priorities and resource availability.
    • Coordinate with welding inspectors, production teams, and rigging crews to ensure seamless execution of lifting, assembly, and fabrication tasks.
    • Monitor daily progress and ensure fabrication activities align with project timelines and quality requirements.
    • Support the allocation of manpower, equipment, and materials to meet production targets.
  2. Supervision of Fabrication Activities
    • Oversee fabrication operations including welding, cutting, fitting, and material handling.
    • Ensure all lifting and rigging activities are carried out safely and in accordance with approved procedures.
    • Verify that fabrication work follows approved drawings, specifications, and project standards.
    • Provide guidance to riggers, welders, fitters, and technicians to ensure efficient workflow.
  3. Safety & Compliance
    • Enforce safety procedures, lifting plans, and permit-to-work requirements within the fabrication area.
    • Ensure compliance with company HSE policies, industry regulations, and client requirements.
    • Participate in toolbox talks, risk assessments, and safety inspections.
    • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or near misses and support corrective actions.
  4. Quality Assurance & Documentation
    • Coordinate with QC inspectors to ensure timely inspection and release of fabricated components.
    • Support the preparation and review of fabrication reports, inspection records, and material traceability documents.• Ensure proper control of fabrication drawings, revisions, and documentation.
    • Assist in monitoring weld repair rates, defect trends, and overall fabrication quality performance.
  5. Communication & Stakeholder Coordination
    • Liaise with project teams, engineering, procurement, and QA/QC departments to resolve fabrication-related issues.
    • Communicate daily progress, challenges, and resource needs to the Fabrication Manager.
    • Coordinate with third-party inspectors when required for fabrication and lifting activities.
    • Facilitate smooth communication between shop floor teams and management.
  6. Operational Support & Continuous Improvement
    • Support the implementation of productivity improvements, workflow optimization, and fabrication best practices.
    • Assist in training and developing fabrication personnel to enhance skills and performance.
    • Ensure proper use and maintenance of fabrication tools, lifting equipment, and machinery.
    • Contribute to process improvements to enhance safety, quality, and efficiency.
