Senior Analytics Engineer
Kraken Analytics are the team who lead on data and analytics products, workflows, and analyses in the Kraken world. We build and maintain core, curated datasets–A “Unified Data Layer” comprising tables, a semantic layer, and dashboards–that Kraken’s clients and internal teams use for a broad range of analytical use cases.
Industry is at the beating heart of the business for Kraken's clients, with massive amounts of data being passed around and complex processes occurring every day. Your focus will be on building the data assets our clients need to understand their business, in close collaboration with our Product and delivery teams. You’ll focus especially on the particularities of North American energy markets, working with some of the largest utilities in the United States.

What you'll do
-
Become a subject matter expert on the Kraken data model across North America and the application as a whole
-
Lead on building models, data flows, and metrics specific to the North American markets.

Work with Data and Product leadership to prioritize projects across our North American clients.

Be exposed to new technologies and tools, and receive guidance on developing your skills

Build and maintain dashboards and data apps for senior stakeholders

Contribute to the development of the Kraken Analytics team and to our coding standards, continuous integration testing, and AI readiness

Lead and own major strategic projects end to end

Work closely with a broad range of teams at Kraken

Continue to develop your analytics engineering skills
What you'll need

We’re looking for someone who combines market industry knowledge and experience with a passion for working with data.

Strong level of data skills/analytics experience. Comfortable with energy/utilities and other relevant subject areas.

Learns fast and is enthusiastic about learning new technologies & processes

Be highly proficient in dbt and SQL, capable of working on large complex datasets while seeing the big picture

Experience building data pipelines and working with engineering teams

Curious and self driven - when faced with a new problem is capable of seeking out an answer without lots of help and support

Highly data literate and numerate - can make sense of lots of data and shape it into a coherent story

Great communicator, can explain complex technical problems to non-technical teams

Has experience with some of the below technologies:

- A scripting language (ideally Python)

- Writing accurate and performant queries in SQL

- Working in a modern cloud data warehouse environment

- Working collaboratively on codebases using git

- Front-end/Dashboarding experience

- The salary range for this senior role in NYC ranges on average from $150,000-$220,000 depending on relevant experience, role alignment, and technical/client management expertise demonstrated throughout the interview process. While the broad salary range is listed, not all candidates will be placed at the top of the range—this will be determined by the overall fit for the position.
