EMT Ground Transport CareFlight
Job Description:
The EMT demonstrates critical thinking capabilities in working autonomously and in collaboration with other healthcare providers in the delivery of care to critically ill patients in diverse and non-traditional settings.Essential Functions
- Accurately completes daily risk assessment and road/weather evaluations at the start of the shift and before each transport outside of Mesa County
- Quickly and efficiently responds to calls.
- Works with flight team clinicians to provide high level patient care
- Safely transports patients to health care facilities
- Operates emergency vehicles safely and responsibly
- Communicates and coordinates with other emergency services, dispatch, staff, patient and families. This is done via radio, satellite or phone.
- Maintains equipment and ensures it is in good working order and properly stocked.
- Accurately documents reports, safety incidents, communication logs, maintenance logs and risk assessments.
- Maintains Emergency Vehicle Operations Couse every 2 years or more frequently if involved in an "at fault" accident. Attends the annual CareFlight safety day (AMRM). Maintains annual fatigue training.
- Participates in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with medical protocols and procedures for CareFlight, Emergency Department and NICU.

- ED competencies as determined by the ED
Minimum Qualifications
- Current Colorado EMT certification with IV endorsement
- Basic Life Support, (BLS)
- Current Colorado Driver's License
- EVOC, or equivalent, within 3 months of hire
Preferred Qualifications
- EVOC or equivalent course
Physical Requirements
- All EMS medical crew members may be subject to certain work conditions while functioning in the full capacity of their position. These work conditions include, but are not limited to: performance of essential job responsibilities in a moving, ground ambulance, hospital as well as the potential to do so in an outdoor environment (inclement weather, extremes of temperature, accident scenes, steep terrain, back country, etc.), exposure to noise, vibration, and dehydrating environment of a ground ambulance, exposure to patients with known or unknown infectious disease in an enclosed space.
- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
- Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
- May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time. Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
