Currently, HGL is seeking a highly motivated Professional Environmental Engineer/Geologist to serve as a Project Manager for a hybrid position in our Lakewood, CO, located on the west side of the Denver metropolitan area. Our Lakewood office is supporting the USACE, USEPA, NASA, DOE and DoD with environmental projects primarily in the Rocky Mountain region. Projects commonly involve investigation and remediation of sites with groundwater and soil impacted by emerging contaminants (PFAS), chlorinated solvents, and petroleum compounds as well as abandoned mine lands. We are looking for a creative professional to provide leadership and project management on complex environmental projects with a collaborative multi-disciplinary project team. Additionally, the PM will have opportunities to manage other projects for HGL across its diverse program and project portfolio.
Responsibilities/Duties
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
The person hired for this role will be responsible for:
- Management of technical and administrative aspects of CERCLA RI/FS, RD/RA, operations and maintenance (O&M), and/or long-term monitoring (LTM) or RCRA equivalent phases of environmental restoration projects.
- Managing project financials, scope, schedule and deliverables.
- Ensuring accuracy of cost estimates and quality assurance of technical documents.
- Perform peer review of technical documents and technical reviews performed by others and provide feedback and recommendations.
- Participate in or lead project meetings with client and stakeholders.
- Provide mentorship and leadership to staff.
- Directing, managing, and leading project teams to meet project objectives in-line with corporate and customer quality expectations.
- Communicating effectively with clients, regulators, project team members, and company management.
- Effectively manage project risks and develop mitigation approaches and strategies.
- Supporting business development efforts, including leading or supporting proposal efforts.
- Utilize approved digital and AI-assisted tools, where appropriate, to support technical documentation, data analysis, project communications, and workflow efficiency.
Minimum Requirements
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:
- Minimum 6 years of project management experience executing and managing investigation and remediation projects under CERCLA and RCRA, including oversight of project teams, management of budget, schedule, safety, quality, technical performance, and customer satisfaction.
- BA/BS in Engineering, Science, or a related academic field. (MA/MS in a related field may decrease the years of project management experience required).
- Excellent time management and organization skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and keep organized to ensure timely and accurate work.
- Ability to build consensus among leadership, internal, and external stakeholders through effective interpersonal communication and relationship building skills.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and adopt new technologies and digital tools to improve project delivery and operational efficiency.
Desired Qualifications
WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT – Preferred, not required
- PE, PG, and/or PMP certifications.
- Work experience in the western U.S.
- Experience with investigation and/or remediation of PFAS impacted sites.
- Experience with investigation and/or remediation of abandoned mine lands.
- Experience with high resolution site characterization (HRSC).
- Solid understanding of screening values and risk assessment process.
- Experience with remedial technologies and approaches.
- 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification.
- Experience using generative AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar) to improve technical writing, data analysis, research, visualization, or project delivery efficiency.

- Prolonged sitting up to 70% of the time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to travel up to 25% per year
- Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Office work environment
- Potential for longer days up to 12 hours in duration.

Details
Work Schedule: HGL office work is dictated by a 5-day work week; however, fieldwork schedules will deviate based on job requirements and may require longer hours and weekends.
Office Type: Hybrid (2-3 days per week in-office or on project site)
Travel: 25%
A favorable pre-hire drug test is required.

The annual salary for this position ranges from $103,142 - $159,870. This position's final salary can be impacted by various factors including, but not limited to, contractual requirements, geographic location, job-related education, training, experience, and skills.
