Computer Scientist 2 - Software Development Engineer (Full Stack) — Firefly Enterprise (P40)

Our Company

Changing the world through digital experiences is what Adobe's all about. We give everyone—from emerging artists to global brands—everything they need to imagine, create, and deliver exceptional digital experiences. We're on a mission to hire the very best and believe the next big idea could be yours.

The Opportunity

Computer Scientist 2 — Software Development Engineer (Full Stack), Firefly Enterprise (P40)

The Opportunity

Firefly Enterprise brings generative AI and automated document production into the infrastructure that powers enterprise creative operations at scale. Our team builds and operates the InDesign APIs and InDesign Server platform on Firefly Services—the systems that let enterprises programmatically generate, resize, localize, and republish complex, pixel-perfect layouts (catalogs, packaging, marketing collateral) across thousands of variants, with no manual production work.

We're at an inflection point. The InDesign APIs are scaling fast in production, and we are migrating a large base of InDesign Server customers and partners onto the API platform. That means we need engineers who can ship durable, well-documented APIs and a horizontally scalable, observable server platform that holds up under heavy, bursty enterprise load.

The problem we're solving: large enterprises need to produce and localize high-fidelity layouts at a volume and speed that manual design workflows can't sustain. Today that often means brittle scripts, single-purpose render farms, and integrations that don't survive enterprise load. We're building reliable, well-documented APIs and a scalable server platform that make InDesign automation dependable, observable, and easy to build on.

This is a full-stack role: you'll build customer- and developer-facing surfaces (job consoles, dashboards, monitors) while working inside the services and server infrastructure that do the heavy lifting—job orchestration, template processing, rendering pipelines, and the APIs that expose it all.

What you'll do

  • Build full-stack features spanning UI (React/TypeScript or similar) and backend services (Node.js/Java) that expose InDesign API and InDesign Server capabilities to enterprise customers and internal teams.
  • Develop and maintain REST/GraphQL APIs for document generation, template/asset management, job submission, and status/result retrieval—including auth, entitlements and usage metering, rate limiting, and versioning.
  • Work with InDesign Server internals, scripting (UXP/ExtendScript), and plugin interfaces to build and troubleshoot automated rendering, pagination, and content-mapping workflows.
  • Build reliable async job orchestration: queuing, polling, retries, partial-failure handling, and clear progress/status UX for long-running render jobs.
  • Contribute to platform reliability—multi-region operation, stability, performance, and observability—for high-volume document generation.
  • Own features end-to-end: architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and production monitoring across the stack.
  • Partner with Product, Design, and Platform to turn enterprise requirements (scale, compliance, entitlements) into robust solutions, and directly support IDS→API migration by closing feature and performance gaps.
  • Champion engineering quality: unit/integration testing, code reviews, CI/CD hygiene, pragmatic tech-debt management. Mentor junior engineers through reviews, pairing, and design discussions.

What you need to succeed

  • 6–8 years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated full-stack, end-to-end ownership.
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and at least one backend language/runtime (Node.js, Java, or similar), with solid component-based UI development and HTML/CSS.
  • Proven experience building and integrating REST/GraphQL APIs and designing systems around asynchronous, long-running workflows.
  • Comfort across the stack: from UI implementation to service design, data models, and deployment/infrastructure basics.
  • Strong CS fundamentals, practical software design skills, and the ability to reason about performance and scale.
  • Excellent communication; ability to collaborate across functions and time zones.
  • Fluency using AI coding assistants and agentic development tools to accelerate delivery.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Adobe InDesign Server, InDesign scripting (UXP/ExtendScript), or plugin development (C++), or other document/layout automation platforms.
  • Familiarity with print, packaging, or publishing workflows (templates, prepress, PDF/X, color management).
  • Experience with containerized services (Docker/Kubernetes), job queues, and horizontally scaled render/worker fleets across regions.
  • Familiarity with LLM/GenAI concepts and integrating AI-assisted capabilities into enterprise products.
  • Experience with build systems, CI/CD, and enterprise-grade release processes.
