Job Description:
Forklift Operator
Position Summary: This position will transport inventory and materials (both raw materials and finished goods) throughout both the operation floor and warehouse areas.
Essential Functions:
- Ensures all equipment, guards, and safety devices are in place at all times, and follows safe work procedures and safety rules.
- Operates powered industrial trucks to transport inventory and load tractor trailers for shipment. This would also include maintaining and servicing production lines with plate, ends, pallets, top frames, chipboard, copper wire, etc. as dictated by production schedules.
- Transports inventory in warehouse to correct locations and stages orders for shipment.
- Understands daily production schedule and corresponds with mgmt. leads, and coworkers accordingly.
- Complete all required forms, bills of lading, spoilage reports, shipping reports and any other related paperwork.
- Performs visual inspection of steel cans and packaging quality. Remove, replace and or repair defective or damaged finished goods and/or materials prior to loading on any trucks for shipment.
- Monitors schedules, equipment, or processes, and reports problems to supervisor.
- Assists with Material Movers (Line drivers) or other forklift operations when necessary.
- Follows all SOP’s (standard operating procedures) and communicates with proper personnel as concerns or issues arise
- Assist Quality Assurance in locating pallets for sampling.
- Keeps equipment and all areas safe, clean, and organized through proper housekeeping.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Three years of experience in a manufacturing setting (high-speed manufacturing is preferred).
- Three years of forklift experience.
- Exhibit safety and quality as their top priorities.
- Effective record keeping skills and the ability to focus on details.
- Proven ability to effectively manage multiple projects/tasks at the same time.
- Effective and proven communication skills (both written and verbal) working in a team environment.
Education:
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to stand continuously for more than 8+ hours per shift.
- Must be able to walk, left/carry up to 50 lbs on occasion.
- Must be about to stand, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Must be able to twist at the waist and bend repetitively.
- This position may also require climbing or balancing.
Must be able to work up to twelve (12) hour shifts, both day and evening.
