Field Service Technician - Sheetfed, Mechanical
Position Overview:
The Field Service Technician – Sheetfed, Mechanical, is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing Heidelberg Sheetfed printing equipment, with a primary focus on mechanical systems and machine performance. This role supports customers by identifying mechanical faults, performing repairs, and ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently. Technicians also provide customer training on equipment operations and basic maintenance procedures.
Technicians take ownership of service assignments and collaborate with installation teams, riggers, fellow technicians, and the technical helpdesk to resolve issues and complete installations. Strong knowledge of industrial mechanical systems, machine operation, and maintenance processes is essential for success in this role.
This position requires travel to customer locations to provide on-site service and support. A company vehicle is provided. When travel extends beyond the assigned geographic area, airfare, lodging, rental car, and per diem expenses are covered. Delivering professional, proactive, and consistent customer service is a key expectation of this role.
What you will do:
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical issues on Heidelberg Sheetfed printing equipment.
Perform preventative maintenance and service work on Sheetfed equipment under charge service and service contract/warranty agreements.
Inspect and adjust mechanical components to maintain proper equipment performance and print quality.
Install and support new or used equipment in coordination with qualified riggers and installation teams, including customer-requested equipment relocations.
Conduct scheduled equipment inspections (SS36 – 10, 20, 30, and annual inspections), ensuring proper documentation and photographs are completed.
Maintain accurate service documentation to support equipment performance tracking and protect both Heidelberg and customer equipment investments.
Provide customer training on equipment operation, mechanical adjustments, and basic maintenance procedures.
Demonstrate the value of Heidelberg service during customer visits and identify opportunities to support additional service or parts needs, including APS and car stock sales.
Maintain strong product knowledge and communicate effectively with customers and internal teams.
Complete all required administrative responsibilities in a timely manner, including expense reports, time sheets, escalation reports, inspection documentation, training requirements, and company vehicle maintenance.
Required Qualifications
Technical training or experience in industrial mechanical maintenance, machine repair, or mechanical troubleshooting.
Experience working with industrial equipment, automated machinery, or manufacturing equipment.
Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to diagnose equipment issues in the field.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, diagrams, and technical documentation.
Ability to work independently while managing service assignments and customer expectations.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer locations.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with printing equipment, Sheetfed presses, or similar industrial machinery.
Experience with precision mechanical adjustments, bearings, gears, rollers, and drive systems.
Field service or technical support experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Prior experience performing equipment installation or commissioning.
Travel:
This position requires travel to customers’ sites covering the Central Region but not limited to this area, the position includes a company vehicle. When traveling outside of this geographical area all airfare, hotels and per diem are supplied.
Travel is required (67 to 100%)
Salary: $33 hr to $38 hr
