Principal Google Cloud Engineer

About the role:
As a Principal Google Cloud Engineer, you will provide hands-on engineering, deployment, and operational support for the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environments. GCP at Westinghouse is a targeted platform supporting specific project workloads and application teams. You will provide hands-on support across GCP compute, container, networking, data, and platform services, including resource provisioning, application deployment support, incident remediation, automation, and continuous improvement.
You will report to the Supervisor of Cloud Engineering and be located at Cranberry Township, PA. This is a hybrid role.
Key Responsibilities:

Partner with application and project teams to deploy, configure, and operate their workloads on GCP, providing standardized deployment patterns and self-service tooling

Provide engineering-level support for GCP-hosted applications, including deployment support, environment configuration, and production issue resolution

Deploy and manage containerized workloads using Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), including cluster configuration, scaling, monitoring, and lifecycle management

Create, configure, and manage Google Cloud Platform resources for project and application workloads following approved architecture and standards, including:

Projects and folders (resource hierarchy)
-
Identity and access controls (Cloud IAM)
-
VPC networking constructs (as defined by architecture)
-
Compute, container, and platform services (Compute Engine, Google Kubernetes Engine, Cloud Run, and App Engine)
-
Managed data and storage services (Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, BigQuery, and Pub/Sub)
-
Help with Google Cloud organization hygiene, governance enforcement, and lifecycle management of cloud resources

Support Google Cloud cost management activities, including usage analysis, labeling adherence, budget alerts, and billing review

Troubleshoot Google Cloud Platform issues and partner with architecture, security, and infrastructure teams for resolution

Use automation and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, gcloud CLI, Cloud SDK, and Python) to improve operational efficiency across GCP environments

Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting using Google Cloud's operations suite to ensure platform and application health
-
Participate in on-call rotation to support a 24/7 global enterprise
Qualifications:

BS, Computer Science, Information Systems or Related Field or related experience
-
5+ years of enterprise systems administration or cloud engineering
-
2+ years of hands-on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) engineering experience
-
Proficient in the administration and operation of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services supporting applications and projects
-
Hands-on experience deploying and supporting applications on GCP compute and container services (Compute Engine, Google Kubernetes Engine, and Cloud Run)
-
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and GCP networking, including VPCs, firewall rules, and load balancing
-
Experience building and supporting CI/CD pipelines and containerized workloads (Docker and Kubernetes/GKE)

Understanding of Google Cloud governance concepts such as projects, folders, IAM, organization policies, and cost management
-
Proficient in the gcloud CLI and scripting (Python and Bash) to automate operational and support tasks
We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $116,000 to $142,000 per year.
