This role oversees daily security operations, ensures alignment with NIH cybersecurity policies and federal standards, and drives continuous improvement across security processes that support NIH mission-critical systems, networks, and applications.

  • Ensure team adherence to NIH, HHS, and federal cybersecurity policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for CIT ITSS leadership regarding team performance, security deliverables, and operational updates.
  • Oversee security ticket workflows, SLAs, quality standards, and operational documentation.
  • Support development and implementation of security controls, security engineering enhancements, and modernization initiatives.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across NIH to resolve complex security issues and ensure timely escalation and communication.
  • Analyze trends, produce metrics, and recommend improvements to strengthen NIH’s cybersecurity posture.
  • Participate in audits, compliance activities, process reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.

What you'll need to succeed;

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of IT security experience with at least 2+ years in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills within cybersecurity or IT operations environments.
  • Hands-on experience with security operations, incident response, and vulnerability management tools
  •  Excellent understanding of federal security frameworks (NIST, FISMA, HHS policies).
  • Ability to communicate technical security concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience coordinating operational tasks, managing performance, and prioritizing workload.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret security metrics and identify risks.

Preferred Skills

  • Professional certifications such as Security+, GSEC, CISSP, or equivalent are strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience supporting NIH, HHS, or other federal health agencies.
  • Knowledge of enterprise IT systems used within NIH CIT environments.
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow or other ITSM platforms for security workflow management.
  • Experience supporting continuous monitoring programs or enterprise vulnerability scanning tools.
  • Skill in developing SOPs, playbooks, and security process documentation.

Security Clearance
