Summary:
As an Application Support Engineer, a typical day involves acting as a software detective by actively monitoring and investigating issues across various components of essential business systems. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying problems, analyzing system behavior, and ensuring smooth operation of critical applications. The position demands continuous engagement with system performance and user feedback to maintain service reliability and support business continuity through timely resolution of technical challenges.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Expected to perform independently and become an SME.
- Required active participation/contribution in team discussions.
- Contribute in providing solutions to work related problems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and support of software applications.
- Document troubleshooting processes and solutions to build a knowledge base for future reference.
- Assist in the development and implementation of system improvements to enhance overall application stability.
- Support junior team members by sharing knowledge and providing guidance on complex issues.
Key Responsibilities:
Linux Systems Administration
-Install, configure, and manage Linux servers (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, SUSE) in physical and virtual environments.
-Perform system upgrades, kernel tuning, patch management, and OS hardening.
-Manage user accounts, file systems, and permissions in secure multi-user environments.
-Datacenter Infrastructure Support
-Support virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, KVM, Hyper-V).
-Perform server provisioning, hardware troubleshooting, and network/storage configuration.
-Manage DNS, DHCP, NTP, LDAP, and centralized logging (Syslog, ELK).
Cloud Infrastructure (AWS / Azure / GCP)
-Deploy and manage Linux-based workloads in public and hybrid cloud environments.
-Automate cloud infrastructure with Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.
-Support cloud-native tools and services (e.g., EC2, S3, Azure VMs, IAM, GCE).
Automation & Infrastructure as Code
-Develop and maintain infrastructure automation scripts using Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
-Use configuration management tools (e.g., Puppet, Chef, Ansible).
Security & Compliance
-Ensure systems adhere to internal security policies and industry standards (e.g., CIS, NIST).
-Implement and maintain firewall rules, SELinux/AppArmor, encryption, and patching.
-Participate in audits, vulnerability assessments, and remediation plans.
-Monitoring & Performance Optimization
-Use tools like Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana, or CloudWatch to monitor infrastructure health.
-Troubleshoot system performance issues, log errors, and bottlenecks.
-Optimize system resources and contribute to capacity planning.
Collaboration & Documentation
-Work cross-functionally with networking, security, DevOps, and application teams.
-Document system configurations, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and disaster recovery runbooks.
-Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation and provide escalation support as needed.
Professional & Technical Skills:
- Must To Have Skills: Proficiency in Linux.
- Strong understanding of operating system fundamentals and command-line tools.
- Experience with system monitoring and performance tuning in Linux environments.
- Ability to analyze log files and diagnose system and application issues effectively.
- Familiarity with scripting languages to automate routine tasks and improve operational efficiency.
- Knowledge of networking concepts and troubleshooting within Linux-based systems.
Additional Information:
- The candidate should have minimum 5 years of Linux systems administration experience in enterprise environments.
- 2+ years supporting cloud infrastructure in AWS, Azure, or GC
- This position is based at our Bengaluru office.
