In 2018, Bitvavo launched the first version of its digital assets trading platform, to bridge the gap between traditional currencies and digital assets. By offering transparent fees, a wide range of assets and an easy to use platform, Bitvavo is making the currency of the future accessible for everyone.
In two years' time, Bitvavo has established itself as the market leader in the Netherlands and one of the largest in Europe, with over one million users exchanging tens of billions of digital assets a year.
Our team, located in Amsterdam, is looking for self-driven, talented people who can help make digital assets available for everyone.
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Market Abuse Compliance Officer to strengthen our second line defence against market abuse across our MiCAR / MiFID II regulated trading activities. You will own the market abuse surveillance and control framework end to end, from detecting and investigating suspicious transactions, to advising the business on MiCAR, MAR and MiFID II requirements, to representing the firm in front of regulators.
This is a senior individual contributor role for someone who can operate independently, translate regulatory complexity into practical controls, and act as the internal go to expert when market abuse questions get difficult.
What You'll Be Doing
Own and continuously improve the market abuse surveillance framework, covering insider dealing, unlawful disclosure, and market manipulation under the Market Abuse Regulation (MAR) and MiFID II/MiFIR and MiCAR
Lead investigations into surveillance alerts and escalations, assessing suspicious orders and transactions, documenting findings, and deciding on and filing Suspicious Transaction and Order Reports (STORs) with the relevant regulator
Drive significant, cross functional projects (e.g. surveillance system tuning, transaction reporting quality reviews, insider list process redesign) with a high degree of autonomy and accountability
Contribute to the design of policies, procedures, and tools, such as market abuse policies, insider list management, personal account dealing controls, and surveillance alert logic, that improve both compliance outcomes and team efficiency
Partner with Trading, Legal, Risk, and Product to deliver strategic compliance outcomes, including new product reviews, market structure changes, and regulatory change projects
Prepare high quality management information and reporting on market abuse risk for senior management, committees, and the Board
Represent the firm in interactions with regulators on market abuse matters, including inspections, information requests, and thematic reviews
What We're Looking For
6+ years of relevant compliance/surveillance/regulatory experience, with a strong focus on market abuse in a MiFID II-regulated company
Deep, practical knowledge of MAR, MiFID II/MiFIR, and related technical standards (e.g. RTS 22 transaction reporting, insider list requirements). Some knowledge of MiCAR is desirable
Hands-on experience running or overseeing trade surveillance systems and leading market abuse investigations from alert to closure, including STOR decision-making
Strong analytical and investigative skills: able to work through complex order book, trade, and communications data to build a clear, defensible narrative
Experience contributing to or owning compliance policies, procedures, or surveillance logic, not just operating within them
Comfortable engaging directly with regulators and senior stakeholders, including under time pressure
Excellent written communication skills: able to produce investigation reports and management information that are clear, well-evidenced, and decision-ready
