Mission Critical Group designs, manufactures and provides value-added services for customers requiring critical power solutions. Powering a new electric world for a brighter, more secure future.
Job Description
The Electrical Designer translates customer electrical one-line diagrams into physical, safe, and code-compliant installations within custom modular PDC buildings. This role maps the internal layout and power distribution containment infrastructure, ensuring that custom-engineered electrical components integrate perfectly into the building's physical shell. The Electrical Designer is accountable for the internal electrical system design, physical equipment layout, and cable containment infrastructure within custom modular PDC buildings. Reporting directly to their assigned Project Manager for project deliverables, this role translates customer electrical one-line diagrams into physical, safe, and code-compliant installations.
Accountabilities:
- Equipment Spatial Layouts: Design physical floor plans and clearances for high-voltage switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), and Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS).
- Containment & Cable Tray Routing: Route 3D overhead or under-floor cable trays, wireways, and conduit runs ensuring zero interference with the building’s structural steel or HVAC ducting.
- System Wiring Schematics: Generate comprehensive terminal-to-terminal interconnection wiring diagrams, interior/exterior building lighting layouts, and structural grounding grid designs.
- Compliance & Support: Verify all electrical designs adhere strictly to the National Electrical Code (NEC) and provide immediate support to industrial electricians on the plant assembly floor.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge/Experience:
- Associate degree or higher in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Drafting, or a related discipline.
- 3+ years of experience creating physical layouts and electrical schemas for industrial control systems or power distribution equipment.
- Thorough, working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) clearance and spacing mandates.
Preferred Experience
- Experience designing inside modular utility substations, power generation skids, or industrial PDC environments.
- Proficiency using specialized 3D electrical routing software modules within AutoCAD or Revit.
Success Measures
- Complete compliance with NEC standards across all physical equipment and conduit designs.
- Minimization of spatial interference or layout clashes between electrical infrastructure and structural systems.
- Speed and precision in delivering final interconnection wiring schedules to the production floor.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on advanced design monitors.
- Regular walkthroughs of the assembly shop to audit equipment layouts and electrical integration.
- Ability to perceive colors accurately to verify complex electrical wiring schemas.
