We're looking for a Systems Development Engineer who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges through software development, automation, and scalable system design. In this role, you'll design and operate enterprise collaboration platforms that power productivity across Amazon, leveraging modern cloud technologies, DevOps practices, and engineering excellence.
You'll work on highly available, large-scale systems, building automation, improving reliability, and delivering services that operate at enterprise scale. Experience with Microsoft 365 technologies, including SharePoint Online and OneDrive, is a plus but not required.

Key job responsibilities
As a Systems Development Engineer, you'll work at the intersection of software engineering, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise platform engineering.
You will:
Design, build, and automate enterprise collaboration platform services that operate at global scale.
Develop production-quality software and automation using languages such as Python, PowerShell, Java, C#, Go, or similar.
Design scalable, resilient, and secure system architectures that improve platform reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.
Build automation that simplifies operations, reduces manual effort, and improves customer experience.
Partner with engineering teams across Amazon to integrate collaboration services with cloud infrastructure, identity, and security platforms.
Solve complex production issues across distributed systems using engineering-first approaches.
Contribute to architecture discussions, design reviews, and long-term platform strategy.
Drive modernization initiatives, operational excellence, and continuous improvement across enterprise collaboration technologies.
Own services throughout their lifecycle, from design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and operational support.
A day in the life
Every day brings new engineering challenges. You may be designing new automation, improving platform scalability, troubleshooting complex production issues, or collaborating with engineers across Amazon to deliver enterprise services used around the world.
You'll:
Build and operate large-scale enterprise collaboration platforms.
Develop automation, tooling, and platform services using modern programming languages.
Improve system reliability, scalability, observability, and operational excellence through engineering solutions.
Design integrations between enterprise collaboration services and cloud infrastructure.
Participate in architecture and design reviews for highly available distributed systems.
Investigate and resolve complex production incidents across cloud, identity, and collaboration environments.
Apply DevOps best practices including CI/CD, infrastructure automation, testing, and monitoring.
Collaborate with software engineers, cloud engineers, and infrastructure teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions.
Work with technologies including AWS, Microsoft 365, identity services, and cloud-native platforms.
- Experience designing, developing, and deploying business software at scale
- Experience programming in at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby
- Experience with systems engineering fundamentals including networking, storage, operating systems, and distributed systems.
- Experience troubleshooting production systems and developing automation to improve operational efficiency.
- Experience working in a DevOps environment with a focus on reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.
- Experience developing automation using PowerShell.
- Experience working with Azure cloud services.
- Experience building or operating services on AWS.
- Experience with infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud automation.
- Experience working in Agile development environments using Scrum.
- SharePoint Server (2016 or later) administration or migration experience.

Basic qualifications
- Experience (non-internship) in professional software development- Experience designing, developing, and deploying business software at scale
- Experience programming in at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby
- Experience with systems engineering fundamentals including networking, storage, operating systems, and distributed systems.
- Experience troubleshooting production systems and developing automation to improve operational efficiency.
- Experience working in a DevOps environment with a focus on reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft 365 technologies, including SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD).- Experience developing automation using PowerShell.
