With our three market leading businesses, world-class operations and investments in research and development, we offer capabilities and opportunity no one else can. Together, we push the boundaries of known science and find new ways to connect and protect our world.

Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines and auxiliary power systems and has been revolutionizing modern flight for over 100 years. Join us and help shape the future of aerospace and defense.

What Will You Do:

Hot Section Engineering (HSE) at Pratt & Whitney is seeking an experienced and self‑motivated individual to join our HSE Core Durability group as the Thermal Tool Advancement Developer supporting improvement of the Durability Design System (DDS). DDS enables durability‑focused designs and thermal analyses for turbine airfoils, blade‑outer‑air‑seals (BOAS), and combustor components. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, experience with coding and tool development, a deep knowledge and understanding of heat transfer and fluid dynamics, and a familiarity with the state-of-the-art in turbine cooling research. A major deliverable is the modernization, improvement, and deployment of thermal tools used in the DDS to create advanced hot section hardware. The role also includes formalizing processes and documentation to ensure consistency and traceability across durability tools. Close collaboration is expected with P&W thermal modeling experts, as well as external research partners, to advance modeling capabilities and integrate new experimental data. Familiarity with the python coding language is valued for modernization efforts.

Support various Durability CIPT and Analytics teams day-to-day challenges in utilization and understanding of thermal models.

  • Collaborate with the HSE methods team to manage and test prod/test/devl model pedigrees, updates, and revisions.
  • Identify gaps in existing thermal predictive tools and collaborate with data acquisition teams to define test plans to bridge the gaps.
  • Internal and external rig and engine test data post-processing and data matching.
  • Improve/calibrate 3D thermal process using field data.
  • Collaborate with Durability chiefs, fellows and SME’s to develop durability analysis process and capability for future technologies.
  • Plan and utilize experimental datasets to develop thermal predictive models.
  • Thermal and lifing system development, improvement, and maintenance.
  • Benchmark data and best practices from academia, government, industry.
  • Create/maintain documentation of durability history and durability design best practices.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to understand and support relevant Durability thermal tools inputs and outputs in alignment with the vision for DDS.
Contribute to define road-map for future Durability thermal tools.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • 5 years of engineering experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 3 years of engineering experience with a Master’s degree, or PhD in a relevant research field

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Experience with coding (Python) and tool development.
  • Experience with handling and post-processing large experimental datasets and collapsing to useful empirical correlations.
