Medical Assistant II (MA) - Kendal Clinic

Overview

Kendal at Hanover is a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) where approximately 400 residents live across a variety of care settings, including approximately 300 residents in independent living apartments and 100 residents within our Health Center, which includes skilled nursing, assisted living, and memory care. Dartmouth Health General Internal Medicine operates an on-site medical clinic dedicated to caring for Kendal's independent living residents. The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with residents and colleagues while working in a supportive, collaborative environment that values compassionate, patient-centered care.

 

We are seeking a Medical Assistant (MA) to join our close-knit team, which includes a Registered Nurse (RN), Medical Secretary, and three clinicians.

 

The Medical Assistant plays a vital role in delivering high-quality care and works closely with the RN and clinicians throughout the day. Primary responsibilities include supporting approximately 4–8 resident visits daily by obtaining vital signs, reviewing medications, preparing patients for visits, administering vaccinations and medications within scope, performing point-of-care testing and procedures such as ear lavages, EKGs, urine dip testing, bladder scanning, and assisting clinicians with in-office procedures. The MA is also responsible for maintaining clinic operations through stocking supplies, cleaning equipment and exam rooms, and supporting quality and safety initiatives.

 

In addition to supporting clinician visits, the MA partners closely with the RN to manage resident messages and phone calls through the electronic medical record. The MA also conducts scheduled nursing support visits with residents for services such as non-complex wound dressing changes, blood pressure checks, ear lavages, vitamin B12 injections, vaccinations, and other routine clinical services within scope. Additional responsibilities include processing medication refill requests and distributing medications delivered to the clinic for resident pickup.

Full-Time, 40 hours/week, M-F 8am-4:30pm. 

Responsibilities

Greets, checks in patients, and notifies appropriate provider. Prepares patient, room and equipment for procedures and exams.

Takes and records vital signs. Informs provider of patient vital signs and concerns.

Recognizes and treats emergency patients as a priority, assists with patient examinations and treatments.

Handles patient situations over the phone, schedules appointments and procedures with medical professionals. Understands limitations in dealing with patients over the phone, and involves nursing staff and providers.

Register new patients and establishes a medical record.

Prepares patient billings.

Assists patients by filling out insurance and other forms.

Supplies authorized information upon request by third party payors.

Instructs patients in preparation for specific procedures.

Collects and processes routine laboratory specimen.

Operates and maintains clinical equipment.

Maintains and uses aseptic technique including sterilization, disinfection and disposal of contaminated material.

Cleans, wraps and autoclaves instruments. Cares for supplies and equipment.

Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program required.
• Previous experience in office or outpatient ambulatory care setting strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work well as a member of a team.
• Computer skills strongly preferred.
• Must be willing and able to participate in evening, weekend, and holiday coverage according to needs of the department.

Required Licensure/Certifications

• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants OR Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Medical Technologists OR Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Healthcareers Association plus DOL Registered Apprenticeships Certificate of Completion.
• Current BLS certification required.
