Job Overview

    We are seeking a dynamic Sr. Manager, Business Development & Commercial Analytics who drives new business development opportunities and provides strong commercial analytical support for utility-scale and data center projects. You will be working cross functionally with the business development, sales, finance, product, growth, and marketing teams to facilitate robust solutions for customers. 

    You will be responsible for supporting due diligence requests, modeling proformas, location-based economic analysis, developing Mainspring’s forward view of the markets, meeting with customers, and helping to refine Mainspring’s product and lifecycle services.

Requirements

  • Drive Business Development opportunities with IOUs in California and other western states

  • Support Business Development, Public Power and Data Center verticals with strong analytical support to grow and advance the sales pipeline

  • Support the Product, Finance, and Project Delivery teams with timely responses to diligence requests

  • Leverage analytical tools and insights to generate new business development opportunities

  • Collaborate with Growth and Marketing on competitive analysis and positioning

  • Present customer-tailored projections and slides to prospective customers

  • Update models and tools regularly in accordance with market, deal structure, and production changes

  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve sophisticated project proformas, financial models, commercial evaluation tools, and analytical methodologies supporting customer opportunities and strategic initiatives 

  • Lead commercial analysis for Mainspring's most complex customer opportunities, translating technical, financial, and market data into actionable recommendations for internal stakeholders and executive customer teams

  • Drive continuous improvement of commercial models, tools, assumptions, and best practices to reflect evolving market conditions, regulatory changes, pricing strategies, and product enhancements

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship on modeling, energy economics, and financial analysis across cross-functional teams, establishing scalable analytical standards and best practices

Qualifications

  • Positive attitude, willingness to take initiative, accountable, and able to communicate across departments with the drive to get the deal done and put the customer first

  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in commercial analytics, business development, strategy, project finance, or energy economics within distributed energy, utilities, clean technology, energy software, or management consulting. 

  • 5+ years of business development experience in the energy sector

  • MA/MS in economics, engineering, energy and/or MBA 

  • Superior analytical and problem solving skills

  • Able to analyze complex issues and data and synthesize to provide a clear recommendation to the internal and customer teams

  • Demonstrated experience with financial models and energy markets (Knowledge of Energy Tool Base, macros, financial modeling, rate analysis)

  • Experience discussing project finance concepts (IRR, NPV, pre-tax vs. after-tax, etc.)

  • Ability to multitask and work under tight deadlines with strong project management, organizational, analytical and coordination skills

  • Must live in the Bay Area and be able to work in the Menlo Park or San Francisco offices at least three days per week

  • Ability to travel on short notice

The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise. New hires joining the company tend to be paid within the starting base pay range noted above, with opportunities to increase pay over time based on development of additional skills, competencies, and company-specific knowledge.
