The Systems and Network Administrator is responsible for the administration, maintenance, security, and optimization of the organization's IT infrastructure. This role requires advanced expertise in Microsoft Windows Server environments, VMware virtualization, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops/Remote Desktop Services (RDS), SQL Server administration, and Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI). The incumbent manages enterprise server and network operations, including Check Point firewalls, network switching infrastructure, and Citrix/RDS environments, to ensure high levels of system availability, performance, security, and reliable remote access for end users. The position also participates in a rotating on-call schedule to provide 24/7 support for critical business systems and services.

Key responsibilities

  • Set up, configure, and manage Windows Server environments, primarily focusing on versions 2025 and 2022.

  • Administer and manage Active Directory, including user accounts, permissions, and Group Policy Objects 

  • Develop and maintain scripts for automating server tasks, including PowerShell and other scripting languages 

  • Install, configure, and manage VMware vSphere environments, including ESXi hosts and vCenter Server.

  • Monitor and optimize the performance of virtual machines (VMs) and physical servers.

  • Configure and manage DNS and web servers to ensure high availability and performance.

  • Implement and manage virtual networks and storage solutions.

  • Perform database administration tasks, including backups, restores, and performance tuning.

  • Perform regular system updates, patches, and backups to ensure data integrity and security.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to server infrastructure, virtualization platforms, operating systems, and storage environments.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system configurations and procedures.

  • Collaborate with IT teams to design and implement new virtualization solutions.

  • Implement and maintain security measures to protect server infrastructure and ensure compliance with industry standards.

  • Administer and maintain enterprise network and security infrastructure, including Check Point firewalls, VPN technologies, routers, switches, wireless access points, and other network devices.

  • Configure and support network technologies, including VLANs, trunking, link aggregation, port mirroring, TCP/IP, DHCP, and IPSec connectivity.

  • Monitor network and firewall performance, security logs, and alerts; conduct security audits, compliance reviews, and remediation activities as required.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve network, firewall, switching, and connectivity issues to ensure high availability, security, and operational reliability. Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.

  • Be available for after-hours and on-call support on a rotating basis to ensure the continued availability and reliability of IT infrastructure (typically one week per month)

 

Qualifications, Job Function, Technical Knowledge, and Skills   

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in Windows Server administration, including server virtualization, infrastructure management, Citrix / RDS and enterprise network administration. 

  • Proficiency in Windows Server 2025 administration.

  • Proven experience as a System Administrator with a focus on server virtualization and VMware.

  • Experience with Active Directory, GPO, DNS, and web server management.

  • Expertise in scripting languages such as PowerShell.

  • SQL Server administration experience, including database backups, restores, performance tuning, and user management.

  • Experience with network and storage management in a virtualized environment.

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.

  • Practical network administration experience, including firewall configuration and management, switching, VLAN management, and routing protocols. CCNA or equivalent networking certification preferred; Check Point CCSA certification is an asset.

  • Familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems.

  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Relevant certifications such as MCSE, VMware Certified Professional-VCP, or similar are preferred.

  • Fluent in English.

  • Previous Canadian work experience or experience working directly with Canadian industries.
