Staff Position Description

Position Title: EVS Tech Position Code: TechEVS-8240

Department: Environmental Services Safety Sensitive: YES

Reports to: Environmental Services Lead/Supervisor Exempt Status: NO

 

Position Purpose:

All KHI employees are expected to perform their respective tasks and duties in such a way that supports KHI’s vision of providing the region’s best clinical care and patient service through an environment that fosters respect for others and pride in performance.

Perform project cleaning duties in all designated areas, as scheduled or needed, in a productive manner to help maintain a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors, and KHI personnel by meeting and maintaining established medical, sterilization, and cleanliness protocols.

Key Responsibilities [List of material responsibilities and essentials duties which must be completed in achieving the objectives of the position]

All staff:

1. Perform all duties, as assigned, for which employee is trained or qualified to perform.

2. Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow all applicable safety regulations.

3. Dispose of waste, including medical and biohazard waste, according to federal, state, organizational, and departmental guidelines.

4. Manage supplies and equipment efficiently and keep cleaning supplies and equipment safely stored when not in use, and away from patients' access when in use.

5. Use cleaning chemicals according to federal, state, organizational, and departmental guidelines.

6. Comply with all federal, state, organizational, and departmental policies and procedures.

7. Participate in on-going process improvement within the organization and department.

8. Demonstrates regular attendance and participation at scheduled department and team meetings or calling in and personally notifying the supervisor or another member of management if going to be either absent or tardy, unless unforeseeable circumstances make it impossible to do so..

9. Consistently demonstrates the ability to adapt to changes in the workload.

10. Report problems to supervisor.

EVS Tech I:

1. Clean, disinfect, and sanitize assigned areas, including moveable and stationary objects, as designated in procedures.

2. Dispose of trash and replenish supplies according to proper procedures.

EVS Tech II:

1. Carryout duties of Technician I or Specialist, when needed, following approved procedures and techniques.

2. Manage and perform routine preventive, corrective, and salvage floor and wall care in assigned areas.

3. Operate all floor maintenance equipment in a safe manner.

4. Work independently, with minimum supervision and demonstrate good judgement.

5. Seek guidance and direction as necessary for the successful completion of duties. Report problems to supervisor.

6. Consistently demonstrate the ability to adapt to changes in the workload.

Qualifications [Statements regarding minimum educational and experience qualifications, required proficiencies with specialized knowledge, computer proficiencies, military service, required certifications, etc.]

· Must be able to communicate well with a variety of customers.

· Must be able to read and write well enough to respond appropriately during emergencies and complete mandatory competencies.

· Must be able to manage multiple priorities and stressors in a positive and productive manner.

· Designated drivers must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving history.

Experience:

EVS Tech I

Minimum of 1 year of experience in environmental services

 

EVS Tech II

Minimum of 1 year of experience in environmental services and previous experience in commercial floor care

Preferences [Preferred attributes for the position which are not absolutely required in the minimum qualifications (i.e., multi-lingual, master’s degree)]

Experience: Previous experience in floor care in a healthcare environment

Special Position Requirements [Optional section: any travel, security, risk, hazard or related special conditions which apply to the position]

Exposure Categories:

· Category I: Expected duties have routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.

· Other potential hazards: Cleaning chemicals, Formaldehyde and Chemotherapy

This position may require travel to other KHI campuses and medical buildings.

Work Requirements [Optional section: work requirements for physical or other important issues which relate to the job]

Constant amounts of physical effort required, during the whole shift, including:

· continual standing, bending, stooping, walking, pulling, and lifting (up to 20 pounds)

· operation of commercial equipment

· occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds

· occasional pulling of carts with up to 100 pounds

· routine climbing of safety ladders for high cleaning and changing of cubical curtains, etc. 

· tolerance to regular exposure to hospital laundry and cleaning chemicals and changes in temperature
