Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Bakersfield Area LIS Coordinator you will be reporting to the Laboratory Directors.

 

In this role you will be responsible for maintaining current interfaces, billing, and test menus.

 

To be successful in this role you will interact with physicians, nurses, ward clerks, phlebotomists, other clinical laboratory scientists and other health care professionals in the resolution of problems involving patient specimen collection and handling, appropriateness of specimens, clarification of orders and result reporting.

 

Laboratory Information Systems Responisbilities:

  • First line of problem solving/troubleshooting issues for end users before the need of the help desk. Creates tickets, completes interface testing, and monitors completion of tickets in a timely manner.
  • Communication link with Information Systems regarding planned and unplanned circumstances, i.e. downtimes.
  • Coordinate new users orientation with Information Systems related issues, i.e. access, menu assignment, training as assigned by the department manager. Educate users during updates.
  • Reviews internal department policy changes that may require Information Systems changes and informing Information Systems regarding the changes.
  • Represents the laboratory on information systems matters with other departments, MCG and LCG calls, including Cerner system upgrades, interface projects, billing updates and test code assignments, reference lab changes, and new test development and testing.
  • Evaluate new technologies within the scope of their expertise. Coordinates new instrument installations and interfaces. Maintains and updates current instrument interfaces.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree
  • Current or previous (Inactive) CA CLS in good standing or MT(ASCP)
  • Must have medical terminology, basic computer terminology and data entry skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • NCA or equivalent
  • One year acute care hospital experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in laboratory science

Special Skills:

  • Above average communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to adapt to workload demands and function efficiently during difficult or emergency situations
