Chemistry Team Leader

Stoke-on-Trent

Given our continued growth, we are actively seeking a Chemistry Team Leader to join our Food Chemistry Laboratory in Stoke-on-Trent. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced analytical scientist to lead a team within our ISO 17025 accredited laboratory, supporting the delivery of high-quality analytical testing services to our customers.

ABOUT YOU

The position requires a highly motivated and technically competent individual with strong analytical chemistry experience and a passion for developing people. You will be comfortable leading a busy laboratory team, managing competing priorities and ensuring work is delivered to the highest quality standards.

You will have extensive experience of chromatography techniques and enjoy supporting colleagues through coaching, training and technical guidance.

Required skills and experience:

  • Extensive experience within an analytical laboratory environment
  • Strong chromatography experience including HPLC, GC, LC-MS/MS or equivalent techniques
  • Experience working within an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory
  • Strong data review and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent organisational and planning abilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience mentoring, training or supporting laboratory colleagues
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure whilst maintaining quality standards
  • Good IT literacy and experience using laboratory information systems
  • Commitment to quality, safety and continuous improvement

 

Desirable:

  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience
  • Experience with ELISA techniques
  • Experience with PCR techniques
  • Food testing laboratory experience

 

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

As Chemistry Team Leader, you will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership of a team of Chemistry Analysts and Technicians within our Food Chemistry Laboratory. You will ensure laboratory workloads are effectively planned and delivered whilst maintaining compliance with ISO 17025, quality standards and customer requirements.

Working closely with the Laboratory Manager, Quality Team and Client Services teams, you will provide technical expertise, support continuous improvement initiatives and help drive operational excellence across the laboratory.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced analyst looking to take the next step in their leadership career or for an established Team Leader seeking a new challenge within a growing business.

Key activities:

  • Lead and support a team of Chemistry Analysts and Technicians
  • Plan, organise and prioritise laboratory workloads
  • Monitor work in progress and support turnaround time performance
  • Review analytical data, results and reports for technical accuracy
  • Provide technical support across chromatographic techniques including HPLC, GC and LC-MS/MS
  • Support training, competency assessments and development plans for laboratory staff
  • Assist with investigations, non-conformances and corrective actions
  • Support internal and external audits
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 17025, quality and health & safety requirements
  • Work collaboratively with client services, quality and operational teams
  • Drive continuous improvement and laboratory efficiency initiatives
  • Promote a positive, high-performing team culture
