The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) serves as a scientific and strategic bridge between the pharmaceutical company and the medical community, ensuring that accurate, balanced, and evidence-based information guides all interactions. The role involves engaging with healthcare professionals and key opinion leaders to foster collaboration, real-world evidence initiatives, and providing scientific education to internal teams and direct involvement in various Medical Affairs projects and activities.

The MSL works in close collaboration with colleagues from other departments and will provide expert medical support including educating the local sales and marketing team as needed. He must act as expert on the disease areas under their responsibility and will ensure their knowledge is current and thorough.

Reporting to the Medical Lead, you will support in creating the Medical Customer Engagement Strategy and the Medical Affairs activity plan for Medical Launch Excellence and successful Life Cycle Management, in line with brand strategies and company objectives.

The role involves up to 60% field-based responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates with different internal functions, including, but not limited to: Commercial, Market Access, Regulatory, Finance
  • Establishes, develops and manages collaborative relationships with key external medical experts and opinion leaders related to any current and future disease areas relevant for the company and develops a deep understanding of their needs
  • Develops and manages collaborative relationships with external business partners
  • The MSL is responsible for engaging with Patient Advocacy Groups (PAGs) and supporting relevant PAG initiatives in a manner that upholds the highest standards of ethical conduct, ensuring full compliance with internal SOPs as well as all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Contributes to the generation and communication of complex scientific information, communicating scientific data related to current and future products to all stakeholders
  • Drives disease awareness in providing external medical disease education and setting up local scientific programs, such as symposia, advisory boards, or scientific meetings in accordance with the respective disease plans and in line with current compliance guidelines
  • Proactively contributes to all pre-launch and life cycle activities for current products and potential pipeline products in the country
  • Provides medical information to HCP requests related to any products in accordance with the relevant processes and local regulations
  • Is an active member of scientific and educational interactions with therapeutic specialists on diagnostic and clinically relevant aspects of any therapeutic areas worked in
  • Locally facilitates any patient access programs (EAP) to address high unmet medical needs
  • Collects competitive intelligence and market insights within the region on diagnostic methods and treatment paradigms of any relevant therapeutic areas
  • Communicates KOL insights that influence the development of brand plans and strategies and supports the development of the local medical strategy
  • Proactively supports internal medical knowledge development and provides internal training for MSLs, sales and other functions on any relevant disease and product related aspects, in alignment with company guidance
  • Makes periodic relevant medical and scientific literatures reviews
  • Ensures that all activities required by pharmacovigilance and risk management are planned, set- up and pursued in accordance with respective local laws
  • Ensures legal excellence and compliance in all medical activities as per company SOPs and local regulations.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience:

  • We are looking for candidates with a strong scientific background, ideally holding a medical doctor of pharmacist degree from a medical university or an advanced university qualification in a life science such as: Veterinary Medicine, Biology, Chemistry or Biochemistry
  • Relevant experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology sector is an advantage
  • Previous experience working in Oncology is an advantage
  • Experience managing medical-scientific projects end-to-end is an advantage
  • Experience with biostatistics and using data insights to decide next actions to enhance customer experience is an advantage
  • Good understanding of local healthcare environment
  • Previous experience of product launches is an advantage


Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate scientific and medical information to both internal and a variety of external customers
  • Highly collaborative and team spirited
  • Excellent active listening and communication skills
  • Fluency in written and verbal English is a must
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to successfully maintain professional and trusting relationships
  • Works effectively in highly dynamic and changing environments, displays agility and an incessant scientific curiosity.
