Mesh Hardware Engineering Lead (IoT + Edge Systems + DoD Technologies)
Overview
We are seeking a Mesh Hardware Engineering Lead to provide technical leadership for LMI's next generation of connected hardware platforms. This role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership, guiding the architecture, development, integration, and delivery of mission-ready hardware solutions supporting Department of Defense modernization efforts.
As the technical lead for the Mesh engineering team, you will oversee the development of LMI's Mesh hardware platform, including asset tags, gateways, sensors, wearable devices, and edge computing systems. Working across electrical engineering, embedded firmware, RF, mechanical design, manufacturing, and cloud engineering disciplines, you will drive technical execution from concept through production while mentoring engineers, establishing engineering best practices, and ensuring the successful delivery of innovative products.
This is a primarily remote role with occasional travel to government and customer facilities as needed.

Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
- Serve as the technical leader for LMI's Mesh Hardware Engineering Team.
- Define the technical vision, architecture, and engineering roadmap for the Mesh hardware platform.
- Mentor and guide engineers across electrical, embedded firmware, RF, and hardware development disciplines.
- Lead technical design reviews and drive engineering decision-making throughout the product lifecycle.
- Establish engineering standards, development processes, testing methodologies, and quality practices.
- Drive execution across multiple hardware development efforts while balancing technical priorities, schedules, and product quality.
- Partner with Product Management, Software Engineering, AI, Manufacturing, DevSecOps, and Program Leadership to align technical strategy and execution.
- Identify technical risks early and develop mitigation strategies to ensure successful product delivery.
Hardware Platform Development
- Lead the design, development, and integration of connected hardware platforms including asset tags, gateways, sensors, wearable devices, and edge computing hardware.
- Guide electrical system architecture including processor selection, power management, communications, sensing, and peripheral integration.
- Support embedded firmware architecture and development for low-power embedded systems.
- Oversee wireless communications integration utilizing Bluetooth LE, LoRa, GNSS, LTE, Wi-Fi, UWB, and other IoT communication technologies.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineering to develop ruggedized, manufacturable, and mission-ready products.
- Support hardware bring-up, prototype validation, environmental testing, manufacturing readiness, and production.
- Guide secure hardware and firmware architecture including secure provisioning, cryptographic services, secure boot, and over-the-air (OTA) update capabilities.
- Ensure seamless integration between hardware, embedded software, cloud platforms, and AI-enabled capabilities.
Product Development & Engineering Excellence
- Lead products through the complete development lifecycle from concept and prototype through validation, production, deployment, and sustainment.
- Support supplier selection, component qualification, manufacturing partners, and production readiness.
- Review schematics, PCB layouts, system architectures, and engineering documentation.
- Drive continuous improvement across engineering processes, design quality, manufacturability, and product reliability.
- Represent the hardware engineering organization during customer engagements, technical reviews, demonstrations, and executive briefings.
- Foster a collaborative, innovative engineering culture focused on technical excellence and mission success.
Qualifications
Experience
- 10+ years of experience developing embedded hardware, IoT devices, or connected systems.
- Experience serving as a Technical Lead, Lead Engineer, Principal Engineer, or similar technical leadership role.
- Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary hardware engineering efforts from concept through production.
- Experience developing embedded systems utilizing C/C++ and ARM-based microcontrollers.
- Experience working across electrical engineering, embedded firmware, RF, mechanical design, manufacturing, and cloud software teams.
- Experience supporting hardware bring-up, validation, manufacturing, and product deployment.
- Strong troubleshooting skills spanning hardware, embedded systems, communications, and system integration.
- Experience supporting Department of Defense or Federal technology programs is highly desirable.
Technical Skills
- Embedded hardware architecture and system design.

- Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Test (DFT), manufacturing validation, and production support.
- System integration across hardware, embedded firmware, cloud platforms, and AI-enabled applications.

- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Active Secret or Top Secret clearance preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related engineering discipline.

Target salary range: $150,000 - 200,000
