Summary:

Meta is seeking a Public Affairs Manager to join our team and help drive media engagement to amplify Meta's commitments to small businesses and communities across the country, and around key state-level policy issues. This role is ideal for someone with demonstrated media relations experience at the state and local level who has experience managing competing priorities and adapting to shifting timelines and is passionate about telling the story of how technology supports economic growth in communities nationwide.In this role, you will execute communications strategies that connect Meta's investments, programs, and product announcements to the local communities they impact. You will work closely with cross-functional partners on Policy, Marketing, Economic Impact, and Product teams to drive earned media and public awareness at the state and local level. We are looking for a strategic communicator who can work with state house reporters, local broadcast outlets, and major local digital/print outlets on both proactive narratives and responsive communications.

Public Affairs Manager, State & Local Media Responsibilities:

  1. Execute state and local media strategies to amplify Meta's SMB and community-focused announcements across key markets nationwide
  1. Build and maintain relationships with state and local journalists, editors, and media outlets to drive sustained, positive coverage of Meta's community investments
  1. Create communications plans, messaging, and related materials — including press releases, media pitches, op-eds, fact sheets, and talking points — tailored to local audiences
  1. Identify and develop compelling local stories and case studies that demonstrate Meta's impact on small businesses and communities
  1. Collaborate with cross-functional partners across Policy, Marketing, Economic Impact, and Product teams to identify opportunities to amplify announcements at the state and local level
  1. Support rapid response efforts and manage reactive media inquiries related to SMB and community issues at the local level
  1. Track, measure, and report on the effectiveness of state and local media campaigns, providing data-driven insights to inform future strategy
  1. Monitor state and local media landscapes and political environments to identify emerging opportunities and risks
  1. Help plan and execute local events, roundtables, and small business engagements that generate media coverage and community goodwill
  1. Partner with external agencies and consultants as needed to extend reach in priority markets

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 8+ years of experience in public affairs, communications, media relations, or a related field
  1. Experience developing and executing state and local media strategies across multiple markets
  1. Experience building relationships with journalists and generating earned media coverage at the state and local level
  1. Experience creating communications materials including press releases, media pitches, talking points, and op-eds
  1. Experience prioritizing competing projects based on impact, deadlines, and stakeholder needs
  1. Willingness to travel domestically to support local media engagements and events

  1. Track record of placing stories in state and local media outlets across diverse geographic markets
  1. Experience in corporate communications, agency, or campaign settings, particularly on economic development or small business issues
  1. Established network of state and local media contacts across multiple regions
  1. Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
  1. Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
  1. Experience working with community-based organizations, chambers of commerce, and local economic development groups
  1. Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
  1. Familiarity with the policy and political dynamics that shape local media coverage of technology companies
  1. Experience with crisis communications and rapid response at the local level
  1. Understanding of the technology industry and Meta's products, particularly those serving small businesses (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp Business)

Public Compensation:

$119,000/year to $171,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
