Job Summary

Director Health Technology Management (HTM) plans, develops, and implements all aspects of the biomedical engineering function for Baylor Scott and White Health (BSWH). This includes sourcing, preparing, using, and maintaining biomedical electronic equipment, medical devices, and instruments in BSWH healthcare facilities. HTM supports patient care delivery and research. It develops and implements a system-wide biomedical sourcing strategy, policies, procedures, and practices that meet service and quality standards. HTM manages total costs appropriately. It plans, evaluates, and advises on sourcing new biomedical equipment and devices with the latest technologies. HTM manages the implementation of biomedical equipment and monitors efficiency, effectiveness, reliability, and total costs. It ensures biomedical equipment inventory and surgical supplies are maintained, repaired, recalibrated, and follow inventory standards. These standards include expiration monitoring, contamination prevention, sterilized handling, and packaging preservation. HTM develops and implements programs, processes, and tools to monitor internal equipment requests, forecast supply and equipment needs, and maintain service levels. It focuses on continuous improvement of HTM processes and directs regular studies on sourcing efficiency, key performance metrics, and cost-effectiveness. HTM collaborates with leadership in supply chain management, logistics, procurement, finance, and other departments. This collaboration drives improvement in HTM processes within its area of responsibility and across the BSWH system. HTM develops, implements, and communicates system-wide initiatives that evaluate vendors, set price controls, and prioritize cost-reduction goals by sourcing category. It ensures compliance with all safety, legal, and regulatory requirements impacting BSWH biomedical programs, processes, and operations.

A system Director translates and implements strategic plans and goals for their area. Makes final judgments on operational matters and ensures achievement of goals. Recommends policies and organizational changes for the area. Plans and executes projects and initiatives that meet annual goals. Erroneous judgments at this level can negatively impact the area's success, business unit, and possibly the overall organization's operations. Plans and directs the operations of a department or area, with responsibility for staffing, processes, budgets, and costs. Manages and advises subordinates to meet schedules, resolve technical problems, and monitor performance. Has a larger, more complex organization or functional area than a manager. Often has one or more managers or supervisors reporting to the role.

Essential Functions of the Role

  • Directs healthcare technology management (HTM) for assigned area of responsibility for BSWH.
  • Recommends and implements strategic and operational plans and goals for HTM programs aligned to BSWH overall business objectives.
  • Develops and implements HTM policies, procedures, and programs to improve service quality, reduce turnaround times, increase equipment uptime, and reduce costs.
  • Partners with imaging team members to review planned projects, quality assurance issues, and new equipment inspections impacting HTM resources.
  • Establishes training needs and manages the selection and delivery of necessary training. Manages test equipment and tools needed to expand technical services.
  • Directs and monitors work request processes from equipment users and ensures timely response and resolution.
  • Manages HTM improvement initiatives to enhance service and support capabilities. These are required to support the equipment base at each assigned facility.
  • Maximizes patient safety and compliance by supporting the proper use and performance of patient care equipment. Ensures compliance with all laws and regulatory requirements impacting HTM equipment and work processes.
  • Manages reporting for HTM equipment inventory, technical requirements, maintenance history, and equipment status.
  • Identifies specifications and recommends purchase of new imaging equipment, and coordinates testing on new equipment under consideration.

Key Success Factors

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in health technology, biomedical equipment service management, facilities management, or related area.
  • 1+ years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Knowledge of biomedical equipment, calibration tools, preventative maintenance, and equipment manufacturers.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards impacting biomedical programs.
  • Knowledge of healthcare industry and hospital operations.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Financial management and budgeting skills.
