Job Description – Construction Manager Job Title Construction Manager Department Projects / Construction Reports To Project Director / General Manager – Projects Job Purpose The Construction Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, supervising, and controlling all construction activities to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, and statutory requirements. Key Responsibilities Project Planning & Execution Plan, organize, and manage all construction activities from mobilization to project handover. Develop and monitor construction schedules in coordination with project planning teams. Ensure work is executed according to approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and project requirements. Coordinate with consultants, clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal departments to ensure smooth project execution. Monitor project progress and implement corrective actions to mitigate delays. Construction Management Manage day-to-day site operations and supervise site engineers, supervisors, and subcontractors. Ensure optimum utilization of manpower, equipment, and materials. Review construction methodologies and improve productivity. Resolve technical and construction-related issues promptly. Cost Control Monitor project costs and ensure construction activities remain within approved budgets. Review subcontractor bills, material consumption, and resource utilization. Identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality or safety. Support preparation of project budgets, forecasts, and cost reports. Quality Management Ensure compliance with project quality plans and applicable standards. Coordinate inspections and testing activities. Ensure all work complies with approved specifications, drawings, and client requirements. Monitor corrective and preventive actions for quality issues. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. Promote a strong safety culture across the project. Conduct regular site safety reviews and ensure corrective actions are implemented. Coordinate with HSE personnel to maintain zero-incident performance. Contract Administration Review contract requirements and ensure contractual obligations are fulfilled. Monitor variations, claims, and change orders. Coordinate with commercial and contracts teams regarding contractual matters. Maintain project documentation and records. Client & Stakeholder Management Serve as the primary point of contact for construction-related matters. Attend progress meetings with clients, consultants, and contractors. Prepare and present project progress reports. Maintain strong professional relationships with all stakeholders. Team Leadership Lead, mentor, and develop project teams. Allocate responsibilities and monitor team performance. Conduct regular coordination meetings. Foster teamwork and continuous improvement. Project Close-Out Coordinate testing and commissioning activities. Ensure completion of punch-list items. Obtain completion certificates and statutory approvals. Manage project handover and close-out documentation. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management. Master's Degree (preferred). PMP or equivalent project management certification is an advantage. Experience 10–20 years of experience in construction project management. Minimum 5 years in a Construction Manager role. Experience in commercial, residential, industrial, hospitality, or infrastructure projects. Experience managing multiple subcontractors and multidisciplinary teams. Timely closure of punch-list items. Compliance with contractual obligations. Productivity improvement. Effective risk mitigation. Working Conditions Full-time position. Extensive site-based work. Travel between project locations as required. Flexibility to work extended hours during critical project phases. Authority The Construction Manager is authorized to: Manage day-to-day construction operations. Allocate project resources. Approve construction methodologies within project guidelines. Coordinate subcontractor activities. Recommend procurement requirements. Escalate commercial, contractual, and technical issues to senior management. Success Profile A successful Construction Manager consistently delivers projects safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards while maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and project teams.
