Credit Analyst
About the role
Behind many of life’s most important transactions — buying a house, applying for a mortgage, getting a small business loan, or refinancing a credit card — is a network of credit relationships. Setpoint provides critical operational infrastructure for relationships between the world’s largest banks, credit funds and capital markets counterparties. We’re building trust in this system of credit.
We are looking for a Credit Analyst to join our team! In this role, you will review residential mortgage loans to ensure compliance with agency, originator and/or investor guidelines, internal policies, Rating Agency requirements and regulatory requirements.
About this engagement
This is a contract-to-hire role. You'll begin as an independent contractor (1099) at $40/hour, paid biweekly against hours you submit. Contract-to-hire is standard practice in third-party review, and we've structured this the way the industry does.
Our intent is to convert this position to full-time employment as client volume grows. Based on current deal flow we anticipate that within six months, though timing depends on volume and conversion isn't guaranteed. Performance during the contract period is the path to a full-time offer, and we'll be straightforward with you about where things stand throughout.
Who will love this job
- A detail obsessive — you catch what others miss and take pride in a clean, complete loan file.
- A self-starter — you work independently, manage your own priorities, and don't need a lot of direction to get things done.
- A fast mover — you thrive in a high-volume environment and can move through multiple deals quickly without sacrificing accuracy.
- A compliance authority — you have deep knowledge of agency, investor, and regulatory guidelines and can apply them confidently.
- A clear communicator — you can articulate findings and discrepancies in writing and in conversation without ambiguity.
- A team player — you adapt easily to changing guidelines and collaborate well across functions.
What you’ll do
- Review residential mortgage loan files for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with agency, originator, and/or investor guidelines.
- Identify conditions and findings; review trailing documents as needed.
- Ensure all required documents are present and properly executed, including the Final Closing Disclosure, Note, Mortgage/Deed of Trust, Application, and other closing documentation.
- Detect and resolve errors or discrepancies in loan files that may affect the sale or insurability of a loan.
- Calculate income, debts, DTI, DSCR, and assets; review Entity documentation on borrowing entities.
- Perform quality control checks and contribute to continuous process improvement.
- Support audit preparation and respond to findings from investors or regulatory bodies.
- Stay current on mortgage industry guidelines, regulatory changes, and investor overlays.
- Maintain working knowledge of internal systems; test updates and revisions as needed.
You should have
- 5+ years of mortgage underwriting experience
- 2+ years of secondary market underwriting experience
- Knowledge of Operational Underwriting
- High School Diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's in Finance, Business, or a related field preferred (or equivalent work experience)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word & Excel), Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint
