This is more than a traditional retail position—you'll assist customers, inspect and prepare rental equipment, install hitches, and help ensure every customer has a safe and successful moving experience.

No experience with trailers, hitches, propane, or forklifts is required—we provide paid training and certifications.

Customer Service Representative Responsibilities

  • Deliver outstanding customer service both inside and outside the U-Haul center.
  • Assist customers with selecting, renting, and returning U-Haul equipment.
  • Use smartphone-based U-Scan technology to manage rentals and inventory.
  • Safely move, position, and connect U-Haul trucks and trailers.
  • Inspect, clean, and prepare rental equipment to ensure it is safe and ready for the next customer.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance, including checking fluid levels and identifying equipment concerns.
  • Answer customer questions and educate them on U-Haul products and services.
  • Prepare rental contracts and process equipment returns.
  • Install trailer hitches and wiring (paid training provided).
  • Fill propane cylinders (certification provided).
  • Operate a forklift (certification provided).
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development through U-Haul University.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license with the ability to maintain a good driving record.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Comfortable using smartphones and basic technology.
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, as business needs require.

Work Environment

This position is active and hands-on. You'll spend time assisting customers both inside the store and outdoors on the lot. Work may involve moving equipment, working around vehicles and machinery, exposure to weather, and using protective equipment such as gloves, safety glasses, or other required gear.


Physical Demands

The position requires standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and moving throughout the workday. Team members must be able to move equipment and lift a minimum of 50 pounds, with or without assistance. The role also involves safely moving trucks and trailers and performing physical tasks in both indoor and outdoor environments.
