The Technical Sales Specialist is a customer-facing technical sales professional responsible for understanding customer research, analytical, and laboratory workflows and recommending appropriate Thermo Fisher Scientific solutions.
This role will develop broad working knowledge across the Biosciences Division (BID), Genetic Sciences Division (GSD), Laboratory Products Division (LPD), and Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Division (CMD) portfolios. The specialist will identify customer needs, provide first-line technical consultation, and connect customers with the appropriate products, solutions, and internal experts.
Working closely with Sales, Product Specialists, Application, Marketing, Service, and Business Unit teams, the Technical Sales Specialist will support customer consultations, solution proposals, technical presentations, product evaluations, and opportunity progression. The role will also identify new business opportunities within both new and existing accounts, contributing to revenue growth and customer success.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Consultation and Solution Recommendation
- Understand customer research objectives, applications, laboratory workflows, analytical processes, and technical challenges.
- Recommend suitable instruments, reagents, consumables, software, and services based on customer requirements.
- Provide first-line technical consultation across the key BID, GSD, LPD, and CMD portfolios.
- Engage Product Specialists, Application Scientists, Service teams, and Business Unit experts when deeper technical expertise is required.
- Translate scientific and technical customer needs into clear value propositions and solution recommendations.
Sales and Opportunity Support
- Partner with Sales teams in customer meetings, product positioning, technical presentations, and solution proposals.
- Identify new customers, new projects, and expansion opportunities within existing accounts.
- Qualify opportunities by assessing application fit, budget, purchasing timeline, decision-making process, and competitive landscape.
- Coordinate demonstrations, sample evaluations, proof-of-concept activities, and technical validation with relevant internal teams.
- Manage follow-up activities to help convert technical acceptance into successful commercial outcomes.
Account and Territory Support
- Work with Account Managers to understand customer research activities, installed base, competitive position, and growth potential.
- Build professional relationships with end users, technical influencers, and decision makers within customer organizations.
- Identify cross-division and cross-selling opportunities across the customer workflow.
- Support customer adoption and market penetration of strategic products and new product introductions.
Customer Communication and Training
- Deliver customer-facing product presentations, technical seminars, workshops, and application sessions.
- Support product and workflow training for Sales teams and Channel Partners.
- Explain complex scientific and technical information clearly and effectively.
- Participate in conferences, exhibitions, trade shows, and customer events to increase market visibility and customer engagement.
Pipeline and Market Intelligence Management
- Maintain accurate and timely records of customer activities, technical consultations, opportunities, and follow-up actions in Salesforce or other CRM systems.
- Manage opportunity stages, expected timelines, competitive information, and next actions.
- Collect and share market trends, competitor activities, customer feedback, and emerging application opportunities with internal teams.
- Coordinate with the appropriate internal functions to respond to customer technical inquiries or product-related issues.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree or above in Life Sciences, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in the life sciences, research products, laboratory equipment, analytical instruments, or a related industry.
- Experience in technical sales, product specialization, application support, field applications, business development, or another customer-facing technical role.
- Ability to understand customer research and analytical needs and recommend appropriate products or solutions.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain scientific and technical information clearly and persuasively.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Sales, Marketing, Application, Service, and Business Unit teams.
- Ability to work independently with a high level of ownership, planning, and execution.
- Native-level Korean and business-level English communication skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel within Korea and visit customer sites.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
- Experience with products or applications within at least one of the BID, GSD, LPD, or CMD portfolios.
- Experience in one or more of the following research or analytical workflows:
- Cell biology, protein biology, or immunoassays
- Molecular biology, PCR, qPCR, or sequencing
- Cell culture, sample preparation, or laboratory equipment
- Chromatography, mass spectrometry, or analytical instrumentation
- Experience selling or supporting capital equipment, reagents, consumables, or services.
- Experience working with academic, government, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or industrial customers.
- Experience supporting demonstrations, sample evaluations, or technical validation activities.
- Experience using Salesforce or a similar CRM platform.
- Experience working with Channel Partners or distributors.
- Demonstrated success in achieving sales targets, generating new opportunities, or building qualified pipeline.
