Job Description

Intro

The DealerOps team at Cox Automotive is leading the modernization of the dealer management system experience — reimagining how dealerships run their financial operations on a cloud-native platform built for the way dealers work today. This is foundational platform work, and the accounting domain sits at the center of it.

As a Senior Product Manager for DMS Accounting, you will drive discovery, delivery, and continuous improvement across core accounting workflows — including GL management, deal posting, cash receipts, and period close — that dealership controllers and accounting teams rely on every day. You'll bring together dealer feedback, engineering collaboration, and data-informed judgment to ship product that meaningfully improves how dealerships operate their back office, while contributing to a broader modernization effort that is redefining the DMS category at Cox.

What You'll Do

  • Own a defined set of DMS Accounting workflows end-to-end, from discovery through delivery, ensuring features are well-scoped, prioritized, and shipped with quality.
  • Conduct dealer research and site visits on a recurring cadence, building relationships with accounting staff and controllers to surface friction, validate assumptions, and translate insights into product decisions.
  • Create and maintain well-structured backlogs across Epic, Feature, and Story altitudes, partnering with engineering to refine scope, resolve dependencies, and maintain delivery momentum.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners in Engineering, Architecture, UX, and Go-to-Market to ensure product releases are well-executed and dealer-ready.
  • Use product metrics, usage data, and qualitative feedback to evaluate in-market performance and make evidence-based recommendations for iteration and investment.
  • Contribute to investment cases and roadmap inputs that connect accounting workflow improvements to measurable dealer and business outcomes.
  • Develop a working knowledge of the competitive DMS landscape and evolving dealer expectations in accounting operations, keeping the team informed and the product strategy grounded.

Who You Are

Minimum

Cox Automotive uses a capabilities framework to define how our product practitioners operate. Candidates for this role are expected to demonstrate working proficiency across its six practice areas.

  • For Market & Client Research, you participate in dealer site visits and interviews, synthesize research findings into structured discovery artifacts, and can identify and articulate problems and opportunities within an established product domain.
  • For Product Strategy, you contribute to product vision and roadmap development with guidance from product leadership, and can support solution discovery and prioritization decisions with data and customer input.
  • For Product Development, you create and maintain product backlogs at the Epic, Feature, and Story level with clear scope and acceptance criteria, facilitate refinement sessions, and deliver complete, high-quality release notes and launch inputs.
  • For In-Market Product Performance Management, you track and interpret product metrics to inform decisions and can contribute to product lifecycle assessments with support from senior team members.
  • For Professional Essentials, you communicate clearly across engineering, design, and business stakeholders, adapt your communication style to your audience, and take accountability for your product area's outcomes.
  • For Technology Savvy, you engage productively in technical conversations with engineering partners, understand basic architectural constraints, and can represent user and business needs in a technical context.

Additionally, you have 3 or more years of product management experience owning features or workflows within a B2B or enterprise software product, and experience working in Agile or SAFe delivery environments using tools such as Rally or Jira.

Preferred

Domain & Industry Experience

  • Familiarity with dealership operations, automotive retail workflows, or DMS software (CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds, Tekion, or equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of accounting concepts such as general ledger structure, accounts payable and receivable, deal posting, or period close processes — either through product work or prior practitioner experience.
  • Experience contributing to a platform migration or modernization effort involving legacy system replacement.

Technical & Integration Fluency

  • Exposure to AP automation platforms such as Yooz, Stampli, or Tipalti, or familiarity with payroll or financial system integration patterns.
  • Comfort working within a scaled product organization with shared platform dependencies and cross-team coordination needs.

AI Capability

  • Demonstrated familiarity with Context Engineering — the ability to structure inputs and prompts that produce reliable, useful AI outputs as part of day-to-day product and discovery work.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with AI-Native Product Building — the ability to identify where AI can meaningfully improve a product workflow and contribute to defining what responsible, high-value AI integration looks like in practice.
