In this position... 

Contribute to a team highly engaged in all aspects of battery materials research including material synthesis, characterization, fabrication of coin and pouch cells, and testing for electrochemical performance. A Technical Expert (TE) in Battery Materials Chemistry is needed to lead and execute projects on battery material synthesis through hands-on experimentation, define material attributes and targets, and provide supplier guidance. The TE also continuously monitors and benchmarks industry trends in battery materials. The ideal candidate should have experience in Li and Na ion battery materials, primarily cathode but could also include electrolyte and anode.

 

What you'll do...

  • Develop processes for synthesizing battery materials emphasizing both process efficiency, improved battery attributes, and reduced cost and/or supply chain risks.

  • Lead the development of analytical methods to characterize battery materials and provide linkages between material analytical metrics and battery function.

  • Lead the procurement and characterization of battery materials from multiple sources and processes including both in-house and supplier produced materials.

  • Provide technical input into Ford’s HV battery implementation plan to ensure Ford has a viable path for a range of battery material technologies for both vehicles and non-vehicles.

  • Monitor and report on battery technology trends.

  • Participate with partners in Ford to set direction, share best practices, and ensure alignment.

  • Mentor others, prepare and provide lab SOPs, training as needed.

  • Document methods, facilitate tech transfer to suppliers, create IP.

You'll have...

  • Master’s degree in battery materials science, engineering, chemistry or related fields.

  • At least 10 years of experience in wet chemistry, material handling/processing, and material characterization.

  • At least 3 years of experience in battery materials and characterization.

  • Recognized expert in the application of chemistry to automotive problems.

  • At least 5 years of experience in development of new technology with delivery.

  • Demonstrated capability of leading/mentoring other team members, organizing complex projects, and building networks of effective collaboration across organizations.

  • Demonstrated record of innovation (patents, awards).

  • Skilled communicator with ability to explain technical details to all levels of management and peers.

  • Ability to design and deliver training and write SOPs.

 

Even better, you may have...

  • Doctorate in battery materials science, engineering, chemistry or related fields.

  • A wide range of material analysis experience is also desirable. This may include teardown and post-mortem analysis of materials from pouch, cylindrical, and/or prismatic.

This position is leadership level 6 and ranges from $132,800-$180,000.     

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.

This position is hybrid. Candidates who are in commuting distance to a Ford hub location may be required to be onsite four or more days per week.
