Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Multi-Domain Operations, and Missile Defense Integration Business Unit (BU) has an exciting career opportunity for a Systems Engineer – Mission Analyst – Level 2 or 3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be on the Schriever Space Force Base, in Colorado Springs, CO.
Position Overview:
The Systems Engineer - Mission Analyst – Level 2 or 3 will support the Overhead Persistent InfraRed (OPIR) Organization. The selected candidate will guide and advise Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS) and Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) OPIR Architecture (BOA) analysis efforts in support of MDA Flight Tests and Integrated/Distributed Ground Tests.
Essential Functions:
- Technical analysis, system integration, verification and validation, and “supportability and effectiveness” analyses for total OPIR systems.
- Analyses are performed at all levels to include concept, design, recorded background scenario generation, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and post-test results.
- Will be versed in the development of MATLAB/Python scripting.
Other Responsibilities Include:
- Performing system integration/update troubleshooting, and Verification & Validation of Threat Modeling Implementation within OPIR Models & Simulations.
- Special focus on process automation through script development to support the Ground Test Integrated Simulation System (GTISS) architecture, design, and implementation within the OPIR framework.
- Will define the next generation of Ground Testing and working with the latest technology to enable mission success.

This requisition may be filled at either a Systems Engineer – Level 2 or a Principal Systems Engineer – Level 3.
Basic Qualifications:
- Systems Engineer - Level 2: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 2 years of related work experience, or a Master's Degree and 0-2 years of related work experience.
- Principal Systems Engineer - Level 3: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of related work experience, or a Master's Degree and 3 years of related work experience, or 1 year of related work experience with a PhD. in STEM.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time to support business needs.
- Applicants must have a current active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start.
- Data Analysis and Scripting experience.
- Detailed working knowledge of OPIR systems and Mission performance/execution.
- Basic knowledge of LINUX commands.
- Ability to maintain and follow documented processes and procedures.
- Strong communications skills, both verbal and written.
- Basic knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel.
- Ability to maintain documentation through the development lifecycle.
- Ability to work in a team-centric, multi-tasking environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Scripting experience with MATLAB, Python and Perl.
- Hands-on experience analyzing OPIR post-test data.
- Detailed working knowledge of BOA performance/execution.
- Detailed working knowledge of SBIRS performance/execution.
Primary Level Salary Range: $83,400.00 - $125,200.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $103,600.00 - $155,400.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
