R&D- Digital Knowledge Transformation Manager

This position is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the digital transformation initiatives of the Sherwin-Williams General Industrial business unit. The role is responsible for leading the organization, transformation, and structuring of R&D technical knowledge and data into standardized, reusable formats that support analytics and AI enablement.


Working closely with R&D teams, subject matter experts, enterprise digital teams, and technology partners, this position develops and implements practical data capture processes, drives adoption of AI-enabled solutions through user feedback and requirements, and ensures technical information is accessible, accurate, and usable. The successful candidate will be highly organized, collaborative, and skilled at simplifying complex information while influencing knowledge management and digital transformation initiatives across the organization.


This position will serve as a key resource in establishing and governing structured, reusable technical information assets that support improved decision-making, operational efficiency, AI capabilities, and alignment with broader enterprise digital transformation objectives.


Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. •    Lead the organization, structuring, and transformation of technical documents, experimental findings, test results, and historical R&D knowledge into standardized, machine-readable formats. Identify, extract, cleanse, validate, and maintain data from structured and unstructured sources including reports, PDFs, spreadsheets, presentations, and databases.
•    Develop, implement, and govern practical processes that improve the capture, quality, accessibility, and long-term usability of R&D data while minimizing administrative burden on technical teams.
•    Establish and maintain technical knowledge repositories, metadata, taxonomies, and data standards to improve searchability, reuse, AI-driven information retrieval, and knowledge management capabilities.
•    Lead engagement with subject matter experts and cross-functional stakeholders to capture critical technical knowledge and convert it into reusable organizational assets.
•    Partner with R&D, Digital, IT, and AI/ML teams to identify, develop, test, and improve AI-enabled solutions. Define business requirements, evaluate outputs, and provide technical leadership to ensure solutions effectively support R&D workflows and business needs.
•    Support retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), predictive modeling, and other AI initiatives by ensuring technical data is accurate, complete, contextualized, accessible, and suitable for AI applications.
•    Lead efforts to identify data quality issues, process gaps, and opportunities for automation and continuous improvement, and work with stakeholders to implement sustainable solutions.
•    Utilize enterprise systems, databases, AI-assisted tools, Excel, Power Query, and related technologies to consolidate, transform, manage, and migrate technical data and legacy information.
•    Develop documentation, training materials, and user guidance that promote effective knowledge management, data capture practices, and adoption of AI-enabled solutions. Use feedback and performance metrics to drive continuous improvement and maximize business value and user adoption.

This is not a remote position and will sit on site in Minneapolis. 
 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
•    Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future (e.g., OPT, CPT, H1B, EB-1,etc.)
•    Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.  
•    Must be at least 18 years of age. 
•    5 years of experience working with technical data, knowledge management, data transformation, document management, process improvement, or related analytical functions.
•    2 years of experience organizing, cleansing, validating, and standardizing data from multiple structured and unstructured sources
•    Experience leading cross-functional initiatives involving process design, stakeholder engagement, requirements gathering, and implementation of data, knowledge management, or digital solutions.
•    Working knowledge of data quality, metadata, taxonomy, and information management principles
•    Exposure to AI enabled tools, machine learning applications, knowledge retrieval systems, or digital transformation initiatives 
•    Proficient in Microsoft office applications, including excel, word, PowerPoint, and related collaboration tools

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•    Strong data organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills. 
•    Familiarity with AI-enabled tools, knowledge management systems, or data management platforms preferred. 
•    Strong proficiency in Excel and other data management tools.
•    Strong background in Product Vision, Business Objects, Excel, Oracle (OBIEE) and Tableau

Travel Requirements: 10%
