Eaton’s IS AER FMC division is currently seeking a CMM Quality Inspector- 2nd Shift at our Irvine, CA facility. The Irvine facility has approximately 150 employees and is the Headquarters for Eaton Aerospace. This site makes the parts that bring jet fuel to and through thousands of aircraft every day. Core 2nd shift hours are 2pm - 10:30pm Monday - Friday.

The hourly rate for this position is $29.00 plus $1 shift differential per hour. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program. What you’ll do:

Reports to the Quality Manager or designated authority. Responsible for performing receiving, in-process, first article, and final dimensional and visual inspections of component parts, assemblies, and sub-assemblies using Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) equipment and conventional inspection tools to verify conformance to engineering drawings, customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and internal quality procedures.

In this function you will:

  • Inspect (receiving, in-process and final) aerospace component parts, sub-assemblies and/or assemblies visually and dimensionally for conformance to manufacturing drawings, quality control specifications and supplier/customer requirements. Other duties and/or responsibilities may be performed as part of cross-training or employee development plan.
  • Review and accept paperwork and documentation used in the acceptance of product.
  • Produce necessary manual or computer generated inspection reports to accept or reject products.
  • Use measuring equipment such as, but not limited to, calipers, micrometers, pin gages, thread plugs, thread ring gages, surface plates, and optical comparator.
  • Complete data processing move transactions as required.
  • Possesses basic understanding of geometrical tolerancing and dimensional measurements per ASME Y14.5.
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of AQL sampling selection per internal procedures or ANSI/ASQC Z1.4 or as directed by customers.
  • Possesses minimum of three years of experience in first article inspection reports per AS9102.
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of acceptance test procedures (ATP), acceptance test reports (ATR), job travelers (process plans), pick lists, drawings, procedures, C of Cs, chemical & physical analysis reports, and test reports.
  • Operates Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) equipment to perform dimensional inspection of aerospace components, assemblies, and sub-assemblies in accordance with drawings, models, specifications, and internal procedures.
  • Creates, loads, verifies, and executes approved CMM inspection programs using applicable CMM software as required.
  • Interprets complex engineering drawings, 3D models, blueprints, specifications, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements to determine appropriate CMM inspection methods and measurement strategies.
  • Documents CMM inspection results, dimensional data, and nonconforming conditions accurately in inspection reports, First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs), quality records, and applicable company systems.
  • Verifies calibration status, proper setup, probe qualification, fixture condition, and safe operation of CMM equipment and related metrology tools prior to use.
  • Experience working in FAA environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of DFAR and Nadcap requirements.
  • Basic knowledge of customers’ DQCR/DSQR programs and website portals.
  • Evaluates and adheres to all flowed down contractual (internal and external) requirements of customer purchase orders, suppliers purchase orders for commercial and/or military products.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED). • Three years minimum experience in quality inspection of aerospace products • Minimum of two years of hands-on experience operating CMM equipment in a precision manufacturing, aerospace, or similarly regulated environment. • Relocation is not offered for this role. Candidates must reside within a 50 mile distance of the Irvine, CA facility (zip code 92618) to be considered. • This position requires access to export-controlled information. To conform to U.S. Government export regulations applicable to that information, applicant must be a U.S. person, defined as a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (green card holder), (iii) refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157, or (iv) asylee under 8 U.S.C. 1158.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge or experience inspecting various types of materials (e.g., aluminum, alloy, titanium, stainless steel, etc.).
  • Knowledge or experience inspecting aerospace products with coatings (e.g., anodizing, cadmium plating, chromium plating, nickel plating, zinc plating, passivation, etc.).
  • College or ASQ (American Society for Quality) certification a plus.
  • Experience programming CMM inspection routines and validating CMM programs for repeatability and accuracy.
  • Experience preparing or supporting AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports using CMM-generated dimensional data.
  • Experience working in an FAA environment

Position Criteria:

  • Working knowledge of CMM software, including the ability to execute established programs and identify measurement or setup concerns.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, customer specifications, and GD&T requirements.
  • Possesses basic understanding of geometrical tolerancing and dimensional measurements per ASME Y14.5.
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of AQL sampling selection per internal procedures or ANSI/ASQC Z1.4 or as directed by customers.
  • Possesses minimum of three years of experience in first article inspection reports per AS9102.
