Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist with solid-state characterization expertise to support pharmaceutical material and drug product development. The successful candidate will analyze active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), intermediates, excipients, and drug products using a range of analytical techniques. This role requires strong laboratory skills, sound scientific judgment, clear data interpretation, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct solid-state characterization studies to evaluate the physical and chemical properties of pharmaceutical materials.
  • Perform routine and investigative analyses using solid-state and spectroscopic techniques, including:
    • X-ray Powder Diffraction (XRPD)
    • Raman Spectroscopy
    • Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
    • Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA)
    • Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR)
    • Karl Fischer (KF) moisture analysis
    • Particle size analysis
  • Characterize crystalline, amorphous, hydrate, and solvate forms of drug substances and drug products.
  • Support investigations related to polymorphism, crystallinity, phase transformations, moisture uptake, and thermal behavior.
  • Analyze and interpret data, prepare concise technical summaries, and communicate findings to project teams.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and ensure compliance with internal procedures and data integrity requirements.
  • Assist with sample preparation, instrument calibration, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance.

Qualifications

Academic Requirements:

BS or MS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Materials Science, or a related discipline, with 2-5 years of relevant experience.

Desired Experience, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience in the pharmaceutical, chemical, or related industries is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with the following analytical techniques: XRPD/XRPD, DSC, TGA, FTIR, Raman Spectroscopy, Karl Fischer moisture analysis
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret complex datasets.
  • Experience in preparing technical reports and documenting experimental results clearly and accurately.
  • Proficiency with common scientific software and Microsoft Office applications.
