The Opportunity
Downer is seeking an experienced Superintendent to join our Utilities Water team, supporting the delivery of critical water infrastructure works. This role will be responsible for driving optimal project outcomes across time, cost, quality and safety, while overseeing construction activities, site teams, subcontractors, resources, plant, equipment, materials and day-to-day project coordination.
Reporting to the Construction Manager, you will provide strong frontline leadership across allocated projects, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with project, client, environmental and legislative requirements. You will also play a key role in developing site team capability, building strong stakeholder relationships, and supporting a collaborative, high-performing project environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing project coordination, scheduling and allocation of resources, subcontractors, plant, equipment, travel, accommodation and materials.
- Managing week-to-week site activities, work crews and subcontractors, while maintaining compliance with statutory requirements, policies and procedures.
- Driving a strong Zero Harm culture and taking responsibility for the safety of work crews, the public, facilities and site activities.
- Supporting constructability and methodology input through design development, procurement strategies, cost development and project scheduling.
- Recruiting, managing, coaching and developing supervisory staff to create a high-performing team.
- Building trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
What we are looking for
You will bring significant project delivery experience within the water and/or wastewater industry, along with demonstrated experience managing subcontractors, schedules and quality outcomes in a project delivery environment.
- Minimum 10 years’ project delivery experience within the Water and/or Wastewater industry in SEQ.
- Experience working with large water boards or utility providers.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and manage schedules.
- Strong subcontractor management experience.
- Experience driving quality outcomes in project delivery.
- Ability to work well under pressure and in changing environments.
- Strong communication, stakeholder relationship, organisational and time management skills.
- Thoroughness, attention to detail and a strong commitment to Zero Harm.
- A frontline management qualification, Certificate IV in Building and Construction, or Leadership and Management qualification will be highly regarded
